Re: Scuba Attack

It looks as though the diver pulled the person's second stage out of her mouth. Would that be a major issue for anyone here? I'd just pop my backup in my mouth and wonder what the hell had just happened. The article isn't very well written, but I think they're trying to say that diver A ripped dive...

Ron Akeson RIP.

Ron was an amazing guy. I'm proud to have called him my friend as well as my mentor and my instructor. I will always treasure the C card in my drawer with his name in the instructor spot. I first met him when I was a brand new CCR diver, trying to figure out how to start diving deep shipwrecks. I qu...

Re: How common is deep air? NHZ

I'll just say that I did lots of deep air dives before I got a re breather and trimix training. Not so much any more, but I wouldn't be worried about diving air to 130. Personal decision.

I really have no words, here. I count myself very fortunate indeed, to have learned from mentors such as John. And I have had some incredible adventures with him- memories that will last a lifetime. And I'm even luckier, still, that our friendship seems to have lasted beyond his so-called "reti...

Mukilteo Dive Accident 4/17

Hey, everyone. The rumor mills are apparently in full swing over this. Here's the deal- a well known local diver, and very good friend of mine, had a horrible accident last Thursday. He's in the Hospital, and let's just say it really doesn't look good. This incident has rocked a whole lot of people ...

Re: H2O SCUBA Show

The promotion for it was pretty much nonexistent. They didn't even bother to throw up a Facebook page for it, which is free and takes about 5 minutes, let alone any paid advertising that I'm aware of. We probably would have given them a free ad on this site if they'd asked nicely.

Re: Shearwater Petrel GF Settings

That makes sense as far as GF and NDL influence. Thanks for the clarification. I was on 21, but everyone was on 21 as well... Oceanic comps have notoriously liberal NDLs. And I wouldn't go playing with the GF settings until you understand what they mean..... wuss Yes. But I am trained up to technic...

Re: Tech BC??

I started with a weight belt.... and it was horrid. I suffered through it as it got me in the water but I always had to carry it in the water until the neoprene compressed so I could tighten it again. In January, I switched to http://www.dui-online.com/products/weight-trim-system/ and love it. Its ...

Re: re-breathers

That is to say that one does not need helium above 200 feet. Newsflash! There is such a thing as open circuit trimix. I personally believe below 100 warrants trimix. And no, you do not need a rebreather to use it. and FWIW- sure, if you find yourself doing hours down at 200', maybe a breather is a ...

Re: re-breathers

I think there is merit to what the OP is saying. It is all about the right tool for the job... and many people dive rebreathers when they don't have any good reason for it... other than male compensation For clarification... most technical dives in the 0-200 range have NO need for a breather. And i...

Maybe people are using the "search" bar too much and not needing to start new threads. Remove that, and voila! Activity returns to normal! Possibly. Although the fact that traffic goes way way up in a shitstorm suggests that people don't stop to gawk unless there's a huge train wreck. :rj...

Didn't mean to cause an issue by saying that, but I also haven't dove long/at all. Not ever plane that fails causes everyone on board to die either. I actually don't know much about rebreathing, but the way I have understood the argument against is that everything is fine until it isn't anymore, th...

Re breathers are a way to shed tons of extra cash while slowly going insane. Acually, not so slowly.

They're tools, like any other gear. mostly use full for people that want to do deeper dives.
