Re: Wah-wahs....

I've experienced the wah-wahs. I got some training from Wings Stocks back in 1994 in deep diving. Our graduation dive was on the Al-Ind-Esk-A-Sea. We went to 220 on air. Before everyone starts saying that we should not have done that keep in mind that this was 1994. Nitrox was just being introduced ...

Re: Mukilteo Lighthouse Park - NO diving?

Wow 2 blocks is a long way to carry scuba gear. Depending on what reference you check that could be 1/4 (1320 feet) - 1/3 (1800 feet) of a mile. I think someone from the Parks Department needs to be outfitted in some scuba gear (double tanks, weights, exposure suit and maybe stage bottles) and walk ...

Re: Mukilteo Lighthouse Park - NO diving?

One thing we should all remember it that you rarely get a second chance to make a good first impression and that is especially true with politicians. If we (scuba divers) as a group can make a good impression I think that the city council may work with us and I think that is what some of you have be...

Re: Mukilteo Lighthouse Park - NO diving?

I don't make very many comments on this forum or others but I've been on a slow burn about this since I read it and I feel compelled to comment. I prefer to observe from the bleachers so to speak. I've been diving the Mukilteo area for 20 years now. We used to have 3 access points for shore diving a...

Re: NW Wreck Dives book now available!

Just got mine in the mail today. I like the drawings that they have included of how the wrecks sit on the bottom. I'm making my list now of wrecks that I want to go visit. Good Job Mr. Boyd and Mr. Carr.

Thanks,

Mike

Re: Elliot Bay Chocolate Milk

Last Sunday the water looked like it does in the pictures. We dove in front of the Seattle Aquarium and the layer of murk was about 10 feet thick. Once we got below it the visibility opened up to about 30 feet and it was surprisingly bright at depth considering the crud overhead. My only disclaimer ...

Edmonds Oil Dock 10-19-08

My dive buddy and I decided to dive the Oil Dock on Sunday and we could not have made a better decision for a place to dive. When we arrived the water was flat and the visibility was excellent. It was one of those perfect October afternoons that we always dream about with calm weather and excellent ...

Mukilteo T-dock 8-20

Went diving at the t-dock last Wednesday. When my dive buddy and I got there we looked out and did not see any buoys on the surface. Usually we will see a red gas can over the geometric pvc pipe sculpture and the orange buoy over the 130' block but we did not see anything at all. The surface visibil...

Re: seattle aquarium!!! My new dive site

I'm glad that you had such a good time at the aquarium. I have been a volunteer diver there for the past 10 years. It is by far the best 20 FSW dive around. Here is the web address for volunteer dive opportunities at the aquarium, http://www.seattleaquarium.org/NetCommunity/Page.aspx?pid=368&src...

Re: Where to go from here?

When I was a DM I was in the same situation that you are now. I was doing 75 - 125 dives a year and my skills leveled off. I found that I was not growing by just being a DM. I decided that becoming an instructor was a lifestyle choice that I did not want to make. It requires a lot of time for little...

Re: Spear Fishing Next week...!

A Ling Cod is a fish you definitely want to have under control. The teeth and gill rakers are razor sharp. When I shoot a fish I try to get as close to the head as possible I don't want to ruin any of the meat if I can. After the shot I try to pin the fish on the bottom, rock, wreck, etc. I will try...

Re: Mukilteo Yesterday

Mukilteo is very influenced by fresh water specifically the Snohomish River. The river was running very high with snow melt. Also this time of year the surface vis starts to go bad as the plankton is starting to bloom. The week before we had 20 - 40 feet of vis. Friday night it was 1-5 feet down to ...

Re: Spear Fishing Next week...!

I've been spearfishing for a long time now and Sounder is right about the bigger fish being the breeders. We usually look for Ling Cod that are in the 24" - 40" size range. Anything bigger and they are not very good eating. An excellent piece of advice that a police officer friend of mine ...

I've dove both the barges and the reef a lot. When the water is snotty we'll dive on the barges but when it is nice we'll do the reef. The coordinates on the map are the start of the reef. There are a lot of rock piles, concrete on the bottom spread out. We have a couple of the bigger spots located ...

Re: Mukilteo T-Dock

To get to the bottle field you set your compass by lining up the 2 lamp posts on the North side of the Silver Cloud Inn. It is in about 130 FSW depending on the tide. You can also swim (caution there can be a strong current at this location so it could be quite a swim) out about 100 yards to the bou...

Re: Mukilteo Diving Wednesday

Howarth Park is situated on a high bluff probably 50-100 feet above the shoreline. It is a long way to carry scuba gear for a dive in very shallow water. Lots of eel grass and sand but not much to see. Just my $0.02.

Mukilteo T-Dock dive 3-9-08

We had a nice dive yesterday at the Mukilteo T-dock. Visibility was about 20 - 25 feet. Water was cold at 45 degrees F. We saw lots of big dungeness crab many were 7" - 8" across. They probably won't be there when the season opens but it was encouraging to see them. While on the dive my bu...

Superior is your best bet unless you want to go thru NWSD in Kenmore, they are a DC dealer. NWSD is a great dive shop but DC has slow turnaround time they took about 8 weeks for me to get new boots and a new neck seal installed. If you decide to sent it to Superior ask them what their turnaround tim...

One suggestion a dive buddy of mine had regarding dive lights. He had some business cards made up with his contact info on it and put it inside the light with the batteries so in case he lost it and if it was found whoever found it would know who to contact. Food for thought.
Good Luck.

Talked to some of the WDFW guys and they said that the commercial opener (which was before the recreational opener) has really affected the recreational catch and that crab availability was scarce. Most of the crab that we have seen is either undersize or soft shell. I hope they firm up before the c...
