When I took Laurel LeFever's Fish ID class, he showed us slides of the Hornmouth orgies. About a year later, I was at Sunrise when I found one, and I was so excited to recognize what it was! Laurel's stated purpose for his class is to convince the students that there are more things to get excited ...

Dave, I'm pretty sure the ones you saw and posted photos of were Coralline Sculpins. I wholeheartedly agree on your ID. And Rich, your second photo is most likely a Padded Sculpin, not a Scalyhead Sculpin. The absence of cirri, and the presence of round looking scales about the lateral line, as wel...

If you want real unusual how about this one. http://underthesound.smugmug.com/photos/247713613-L.jpg Two shaggy's mating or is it exchanging gifts?

Hi, The name is Rich. I have been a senior poster for a long time on northwestdivers but decided to check out some new turf. I am a NAUI master diver/ Photo nut and slug head. I did 156 dives last year all in Puget Sound and spend a great deal of time in the Port Townsend area where most of the phot...

Shaggy nesting season

It's that time of year for the Shaggy mouse nudies in Port Townsend and they are sociable little critters.

I turned over a cluster of giant barnacle shells and found this. 8 of these guys having a social get together.

Take a look at these and see what you think. Both scalys. Yours could be something different or just a Montery adaptation. Hope Jana chimes in on this one. She does Montery allot.

Pretty sure it's still a scaly head Dave. These guys are the master of disguise. They take on different colors and patterns to match there surroundings and the younger ones tend to have more pointed heads which get rounder as they get bigger. The bars accross the back and the and through the eyes ar...
