Re: Body Glide for neckseals
as a white water kayaker we use both. Imagine surfing in the ocean, always looking back to check waves, wearing a kayaking drysuit...sand gets in there between neck and gasket and it scabs up... We use seal saver to condition the gaskets between uses, protects and keeps in good shape. The body glide...

If you go to Oahu I would recommend the Outrigger Beachcomber in Waikiki or Marriott Ko Olina. If you decide to do Ko Olina...note that it is $25 per day to park a car there and there isn't any place to leave a car and "hoof" it back to the hotel to avoid the parking fee. There is one boa...

Re: Complacency can hit us all, or why you shouldn't hurry
Thanks for posting Lynn....I had issues with some part of gear on just about each dive this past weekend. I think (know?) that I was rushing...it was freakin hot out, I was excited to hit the water...and I missed sooooo many things that I didn't end up enjoying my dives as much as I could because I ...

Re: Dive trip recommendations for Alaska Companion Fare
Aaron, I was just in Oahu. There is plenty of shore diving to be found....and lots of divers to hook up with! We rented a house on the north shore (opposite end of island in relation to waikiki) where things move slower. Right there on the North Shore is about 5 shore diving spots within a 4 mile ra...

Don't forget partner airlines for Alaska (Delta is one of them!)...
ALaska goes to Hawaii...but costs more points than a continental flight. And might cost $50 more to use the companion fare.

Berritt....you can always try using wine bottles to stretch the wrist seals. Worked wonders for Shell last night. :) Berritt....I still have nerve damage (pain) in my right hand. It is still swollen and puffy...but we used seal saver and wine bottles over night (it took us a few hours to empty the ...

Yup, true - I could install grommets myself. And a tube of aquaseal probably fix where the pockets are coming off too. And I could probably install a new zipper pull without too much problem. The point is, a brand new suit that costs $2000 shouldn't have these problems in the first place. :banghead...

Duh. You hit the yard gong when you are in trouble and ninjas emerge from the surrounding forest to help. That's only if it's stylishly hung from a bamboo frame. If it's just hanging from, like, an old carport then your neighbor just yells SHUTUP from his window and no one helps you. Awesome!

2 parts fresh squeezed lime juice, 1 part water, 1/2 - 1 part OJ (not from concentrate), all the zest from the limes you used, and sugar to taste. Let that mixture sit in the fridge over night, stirring once or twice. Filter/skim-out the zest in the morning, and use the juice as your mix, add top-s...

Re: custom sizing. My LDS told me that custom sizing is not free, and that the free undergarment promotion doesn't apply to custom sized suits. Is this not the case? My LDS said I would have to pay about $100 or $150 (can't remember) to do custom sizing...but it would still meet the free undergarme...

FWIW my BARE suit - ordered from NWSD for an excellent price - got to me in about 10 days. They're located just across the border in BC so unless you're ordering custom stuff it should get here pretty quick. I was told about 10 days because it was so close by ...which stretched to 3 weeks...but fin...

It is out of hydro, out of viz. Has a K-valve. Looks like it fell off the back of the truck. Literally.
I can bring it to Hoodsport N Dive on Saturday. If you feel guilty about accepting a free tank, then my husband would love to trade it for beer.

Berritt and I just spent hours at the Bare booth (and many hours combined at other drysuit vendor booths) at the Dive show in May. She got the neoprene suit (she mentioned above) for warmth factors. I bought the Bare Trilam. I prefer Shell/Trilam (my old suit was trilam/shell) because it dries quick...

Re: Injuries and Drying Out
What I write here is probably blasphemy... I blew (bulges) 3 discs in my neck after a day of diving. My Dr kept telling me it was a car accident, but really...I would know if I had one of those! In the end, they think it was either 1) pulling on my drysuit neck gasket compressed the discs, 2) diving...

Unfortunately, drysuits are out of the question right now, so trying to keep discussion on wetsuit quality only.

We are only looking at 7mil with the farmer john style.

Wetsuit quality?
My 16 year old nephew wants to get into diving (mostly spearfishing), and like most of us, money is a concern. He is the oldest of 4 boys, so his parents will be providing a few start up scuba units  Does wetsuit quality matter? His parents are giving him $200 for wetsuit, boots, hood. We can f...
