Basically, I just need to know how long the various parts of it are: how long is the part sticking out into the water, and how wide is the T part. Anybody know, or know where I could find that info?
Mucho thanko,

Going, Going, Gone!
That's what this guy did. During our final dive at Monterey, under Wharf #2, we encountered this little guy, about 3-4 inches long. As we watched, he stood on his tail, dug a hole with it, worked his way down and vanished. Malinda and I just stared, astonished, while Kathy snapped pictures with the ...

More Fish to ID
Well, I wonder if the moldy oldy book can help with a bunch of rockfish that we encountered, all on the same dive. I've got no less than 7 shots at the location below of rockfish that we can't ID with the books we have. We found at least 2 or 3 varieties that were new to us that we were able to ID, ...

We're a family of divers: me, my wife Kathy, and daughter Malinda, known to this board and Northwest Diver as Chenari. We actually live in Boise; my wife is a Travel Nurse, which means she takes short-term assignments - usually 13 weeks - in various places. I normally travel with her, since I'm not ...

Little Pink Fish
We found this little fellow at Wharf #2 in Monterey on our final dive, which happened to be a night dive. He was really fun to watch, because he kept trying to find an opening in all that red bryozoan to hide in. He was maybe 3" long, and has us thoroughly stumped. The only possibility we can f...

You won't find it in any of the books - or at least I haven't. Just from my observations - and it alone can't tell you what it is, but it does give a good clue. In Scalyheads there are three rather X shaped red lines usually through the eyes. In younger Great Sculpins there are two, forming a nice ...

Dave, I'm pretty sure the ones you saw and posted photos of were Coralline Sculpins. I wholeheartedly agree on your ID. And Rich, your second photo is most likely a Padded Sculpin, not a Scalyhead Sculpin. The absence of cirri, and the presence of round looking scales about the lateral line, as wel...

The cerata match, all right, but I don't see a frontal veil in his picture, and if those are the rhinophores in the lower right corner of the picture, they don't match. Then again, I don't have any better ideas at this point. Yes, this was in Monterey. It was on the big pipe that leads out to the me...

One gets the idea this chiton took a wrong turn somewhere. He's dangling out in space from a little piece of seaweed. I can't help wondering what the chiton word for "oops" is

Mystery Nudibranch!
With Behrens' book plus Lamb/Hanby, we can usually come up with an ID for the nudis we see, but this guy has us stumped. Using the basic criteria, he should be some kind of dirona, but we can't figure it out. He has a frontal veil, as in this shot: http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb133/dwashbur/m...

Yeah, we see scalyheads everywhere, and found more than a couple down there. That was why this one caught my eye, he just doesn't fit the profile. I don't go by color at all, because scalyheads are chameleons. But they're one sculpin I can identify consistently, and this guy looks... different. How'...

BIG Worm!
This guy was at least two feet long. We found him on our surface swim in after a night dive at the Monterey breakwater. He was swimming in a sort of spiraling motion, like a corkscrew or something, I don't know how else to describe it. In our lights, he was mesmerising. I can't help wondering if Les...

Where are the pics???? Sounds like you guys had a great time down there! We did have a great time. The pix are at my photobucket site, s205.photobucket.com/albums/bb133/dwashbur/ Everything there is sorted by location and date; the Monterey ones are listed as breakwater + date and number as appropr...
