Re: Advice needed: BackPlates/Wing/Harness..
I also dive a DSS bp/w. I love it, but.....(there's always a "but", right?) The one thing I'd do differently (and likely will do), is go with the softer, releasable harness system that Tobin offers. While there is absolutely nothing wrong with the rigid, continuous harness setup that I use...

Re: Dive retailers
And as an aside, picking the sports of golf and surfing, maybe not the right ones. Golfing is a very expensive sport to learn well and buy equipment for maybe as much as diving, gear wise and WAY more in training cost when you figure in green fee's. Surfing is way cheaper equipment wise but takes a...

As an independent instructor...I'll feel free to comment here... Look at the other outdoor industries where they have professional instruction. One example...surfing...$60 - $85 per person ($20 per hour per person) for a 3 hour clinic in groups of 6 - 8. Let's see, on the light side, an Open Water ...

Re: Oregon Coast Aquarium
Wow, Spatman, I'm sorry to hear about your day. I do agree that the organization was a bit off. Our written instructions said to show at noon for a 2:00 p.m. dive., but when we got there at noon they said to come back at 1:30 to get suited up, etc. So, we spent the time in between checking out the a...

Oregon Coast Aquarium
After a hellaciously long drive to Newport from Seattle on Friday night (in the heart of rush-hour, no less), Paul and I arrived in Newport around midnight with great anticipation for our aquarium dive the next day. (We were taking part in the DUI Dog Days program). On Saturday, we arrived at the aq...

Paul and I plan to be there. We won't bring chips.....however, being from the land of beer (and cheese), we are skilled at bringing all manner of alcohol into forbidden places, so it is likely we will bring the proper post-dive libations.
See everyone on the 10th.

Re: Piranha Dive Manufacturing
I second the spring straps from Piranha. Love 'em and they were really inexpensive (like around $30 for the pair including shipping). Sheahanmcculla gave me the heads up on Pirahna at the last NWDC dive @ Redondo. Very grateful as it saved me lots of money.

Re: Best Case or Luggage for Dive Gear
LCF - thanks for the Stalhsac info. We are in dire need of replacing our (ridiculously overpriced and poor quality) Oceanic dive gear bags (yeah, I know, we bought them before we knew better), and the Stahlsac stuff looks good, very good.

Re: Dry Suit Class Pool Session
It gets better! I hated my drysuit for the first three or four dives, and I'm sure I gave the folks at EUP (both topside and underwater) a few good laughs the first time I tried out my suit there. I was ready to boycott diving dry forever but then it all eventually came together. Of course I still f...

Re: Finally got rid of my BioFins
This post is motivating me to switch to the Turtles I've been eyeing up at Matt's shop. I love my Jets, but they have a really small foot pocket which make them hard to put on and impossible to remove at the end of the dive without help from a dive buddy.
Ah....so much gear, so few scuba bucks.....

If you are a tech diver and want people to cater to your every little need and desire Sports is likely not best suited for that. I'm not a tech diver but I still want people cater to my every need and desire. :) Seriously, though....there is a dive shop for every diver. And there will always be div...

Isn't it about time for a NWDC club dive?
Redondo was a lot of fun, but it seems like a LONG time ago already. Heck, some NWDC peeps have moved to Louisiana or gone back to Wisconsin since then! And while the "Ducks and Diving" event was a blast, it seems about time to plan something that involves the use of tanks and regs and som...

In the meantime, I'm pondering ways I can dive, 'cuz my dry suit is getting dehydrated. I think a "dive valet" is called for. You know, someone who can assist you in suiting up, carrying all your gear to the water, helping you get into a "floatable" depth, and then hand you your...
