Re: Solmar V vs. Rocio Del Mar vs. Nautilus Explorer

I did a 10 day circumnavigation trip of Vancouver Island on the Nautilus Explorer a few years ago. The Explorer is a great boat and Mike Lever runs a really good operation.

The Wreck of The General

https://vimeo.com/125687021 http://www.frogkickdiving.com/general.html The wreck of The General is a 205 ft converted scow that rests in 180 foot of water. It was intentionally sunk in the late 60's by General Howard McGee (know as "The General" by his neighbors) as an artificial reef and...

Re: RIB on Craigslist

Tubes will be huge, you'll need a ladder. Inboard takes up a ton of interior room. Heavy as hell, needs a full ton to haul it. Might be overwidth with the tubes inflated. On the other hand, will be super fun to haul ass in a small craft advisory. It looks like the engine compartment is only about a...

Classic NWDC- an innocent "I want a bigger tank" thread turns into "you're going to die!" Lol. :grouphug: Ya probably succeeded in scaring the shit out of poor ScubaJess - Now she won't even use the hottub without nitrox and a and an O2 bottle for deco. :-) It would be interesti...

You said you were looking for a good deal on a RIB - This boat has your name all over it! Granted, I have no idea about the inboard diesel thing but a 22 ft RIB for $17k could be a screaming deal.

IMHO Northwest Shore Dives by Stephen Fischnaller is a much better book. It's also difficult to find but I checked and you can pick up the 2000 edition off from Amazon.

Re: Dive show/H2O show in Seattle/Tacoma

Here's the list of exhibitors. As you can see, it's pretty much all warm water travel booths. Looks like there's very little in the way of Pacific Northwest diving, shops or clubs (which is the part I loved about the show years ago when it first started): You missed a few of the local outfits: DIAB...

Re: Just want some opinions

business owners are free to charge any amount that they see fit for a product or service and we as consumers are free to buy it or not. It's the way of the free market. I got tired of paying $32 to top off my HP 100's so I now drive to West Seattle and pay less than half of that. Free market in acti...

Re: BCD and Fins

I really like my F1's drysuit diving - they have a wide blade with a thick sidewall purchase which is great for back kicks. They are also heavy/negative and seem to work well for keeping me in trim. The downside is that they are heavy, which makes them a PIA for travel. I also find them too heavy fo...

Re: Getting frustrated with the whole ordeal

Ya just need to take it in stride and realize that fixing your gear is a part of the diving experience. Between the boat and my dive gear I probably spend about 3X the amount of time fixing, repairing and maintaining things as I do underwater. As for the drysuit, have you pressure tested it yourself...

Re: Does today's rain means tomorrow's bad viz?

It shouldn't too bad - Edmonds isn't very prone to river runoff. It's a long ways from the Snohomish and it gets quite a bit of clean water coming in through Admiralty Inlet.

The furthest south that I've seen significant (chocolate milk) runoff is at Possession Point.

Those old tanks with pipe threads make really nice bells. If you're looking to get rid of it for scrap value let me know, I'd like to pick one up as a project to do with my daughter.

Thanks, Bill! Good info. I guess I won't be bringing any gear other than my prescription mask. Diving is a low priority this vacation anyway (gasp!). Re: Kauai diving recommendations?

We love Kauai but as a diving destination there are not many options. The best diving is off from Niihau, a rural island off the coast of Kauai, but this time of year the charters don't run because of the weather and swell. Koloa Landing is a shore dive that's pretty much always diveable. It's reall...
