I am heading up from N. Seattle, planning on catching the 07:00 ferry at Muk. Anybody got a good breakfast place between Clinton and Keystone?

I'll have to let you know when I head down to Newport. It will probably be sometime in mid-August when one of my friends is going to spend a month away from home training at the hospital.

Choices, Choices, gotta figure out weather Sunday will be DIW with you guys or Sunrise with Marker Buoy folks. Haven't been to either site but not humping my gear down a bluff has certain appeal. Anybody want to carpool from Seattle?

Re: Outboard repairs
I have serviced the Honda BF40/50 series. I haven't had to mess with carburetors much but then these engines always had an external fuel filter and water separator to keep the fuel clean and were run frequently enough year round that it didn't get old. There should be a drain screw to empty your coo...

MiniSpools for small smb
I have been carrying a small orally inflatable SMB without an over pressure relief mainly for surface signaling. I am wondering if it would be useful to carry it pre-rigged to a mini spool with ~20' feet of line so I can launch it from a safety stop if I make a mid-water ascent when shore diving. Ha...

Neah Bay and surroundings June 12-14
My better half and her friends are planning a hike to Shi Shi beach on the Makah Reservation June 12-14. I am thinking about tagging along to dive in the surrounding area. Between Neah Bay, Seiku, and Salt Creek it seems like I could keep myself entertained for a couple of days even if there are not...

Re: DIY thread
I got tired of my Zeagle BC riding up, especially when my suit compresses so I made a crotch strap last night. I figured a d-ring on my ass might be useful too. I was a little surprised when I realized that the fitting on the back of the BC was for 1.5" webbing rather than 2" so I had to h...

I have been using a utility called HDClone to make full images of disks like Norton Ghost does. I bought the Standard edition but now wish I had bought the Pro edition so I could use firewire drives. You still may want to make incremental backups of your files for data recovery, the tool that comes ...

Re: What's in your pockets?
I would like to get a PLB, just haven't justified switching the GPS+VHF out for one of those yet. There has been a recent innovation in the PLB market that has me thinking about getting one to carry with me when I sail or dive. This winter McMurdo introduced a very small and inexpensive unit to the...

Thanks for posting the dive report. These dives were so cool that I was at a loss for describing them. I got to dive in kelp for the fist time, something I have always wanted to do. I bought Marine Life of the Pacific Northwest: A Photographic Encyclopedia of Invertebrates, Seaweeds And Selected Fis...

Redondo about two hours after low tide around 2:00 4/24. The vis was 5' from surface to around 75fsw. Did manage to get a glimpse of octopus tentacle underneath something that I couldn't identify since the vis. was so bad.

Re: Anyone going to the treasure hunt to watch?
I drove down and actually had gear with me. Once I got there I realized that despite the signs to the contrary there was a zoo and aquarium at Owen's Beach too. P1020687.JPG I decided to take photos of the chaos rather than participate. P1020693.JPG P1020703.JPG I dove Redondo later in the afternoon...

Isn't this the first year it has been mid-day on a Friday? I suspect that it should cut down on the numbers and chaos quite a bit unless all the unemployed folks in Western Washington happen to dive.

Re: Salvo 10w vs. 21w HID
I got a Halcyon 10W HID for $200 off Craigs List in January. Don't spend $60 on a sealed lead acid battery if you or your friends are the least bit handy. Allied Battery in Seattle sold me what I needed to make a new battery for around $30. I could have probably gotten it cheaper if I included it in...

Re: Anyone reconize a truck from "The Scuba Shack"
Scuba Shack had a trailerable 28' Almar jet drive dive boat that they were running out of Kehai on Maui when I was there a year ago. Last spring they were going to replace the boat with a slightly larger boat that they were having custom built. I assume that they sold the boat and tow vehicle as a p...

Re: Gear Management/Storage for Apartments
I am a condo dweller who fortunately has an extra bath with tub. I haven't got around to adding a hand held sprayer for rinsing yet but I did find a great alternative to a second shower rod. I found something sold as a portable closet hanger rod that is quite a bit more robust than a shower curtain ...

Re: Marking up your gear?
I have gone to some effort to overcome the black gear with black highlights issue. It is important to me that my gear and I have a distinctive appearance both in and out of the water. Although I try to dive with known buddies I sometimes end up in a threesome which makes tracking people more complex...

Re: New thought on a rescue technique, for discussion - NHZ
Would a stokes litter or backboard somewhere on site at the coves be worthwhile as a means to get a distressed diver out of the water so interventions can begin? They would have to be out of the water before an AED could be used and a litter would have use in many other situations.
