Brian, I have some friends in the Bothel area who have expressed interest in Bob's gas management classes in the past. Fed Way is always the wrong direction in icky traffic. If you host something similar sometime this winter, could you please post it here? I'll send them the info.

Thanks,
Richard

I use a 19 cf Pony attached to my tank on my right side with the Reg clipped in the "triangle" in front of me. I still have an octo on my main 1st stage, coming out on my left side, clipped in the "triangle" on the left side. (Yes, that's alot of hoses, (3 Regs) but it's working...

Sorry to keep throwing scubaboard posts up, but this has been discussed so much over there it seems valuable... A pony (and improper gas choices) can lead you here: http://www.scubaboard.com/showpost.php?p=799668&postcount=1 I have several sets of doubles and they are no substitute for a good, a...

IMHO, you really should treat your buddy like your life is in his/her hands - because it very well might be. I dive with a long hose (7ft) and getting it to an OOA diver is as easy as passing it over. My octo is around my neck. We use strong lights and stay (relatively) quite close to one another - ...

I don't mean to start a war here, but there are alternatives to a pony. A good buddy can provide gas redundancy and get you out of alot of other types of difficuties too (e.g. entanglement). Bob's (grateful diver) upcoming gas management seminar can provide you and your buddy many of the tools to pr...

NW Boat Dives has coordinates. There is an unmarked rock wall to the south of the Whip Garden, about 100' south of the delta from the creek. Nice when you miss the whip garden :-) Depth maybe 85 to 95ft as I recall. ~20ft high The dissolved oxygen is plumenting right now and there are dead fish on t...

The sub base and less road access don't help either. I bet there are some cool undiscovered spots hidden in all the mud. Let us know if you find any!

You got it. Slack before ebb = "high slack" (a bad term) Slack before flood = "low slack" (again, confusing tides and currents) I recommend the current atlas, it will really help understand some patterns, eddys, etc. There are 2 volumes: one for the sound and one for the straits ...

I loved those integrated pull dumps for years. Never had one seperate, guess I got nervous after hearing about some people's issues with them. The thought of pulling my BC hose off underwater and losing all positive buoyancy is scary.

Where are you Sounder? Anywhere near Ballard (home) or downtown Seattle by King St. Station (work)? I'd suggest trying the 1.5# (each) ankle weights. I think I have some 1#ers, but the 1.5s will be enough to notice a difference while you're busy adjusting to the new experience at the same time. They...

My offer still stands to borrow some of mine sometime. Just so you can try with and without before buying any. You can pick them up in Ballard. Or sometime when we're both in Cove 2 I could let you have them and all you'd have to do is leave them on my porch when you're done. Right now I'm only usin...

I used ankle weights for a few years or so. Then got to the point where my gear, training and styles had changed so that I didn't need them. Cons they tend to promote a feet down attitude - mucking up the bottom big time. Keeping your feet low all the time is not really good form at our silty sites....

Avoid the oil dock on large exchanges until you have done it a couple times and have some experience with it. There can be a rough cross-current.

The tanks are 7.25" diameter (nominal). Don't worry, the highland bands will fit, just make sure you get the right model for your manifold. The shop should ask you brand and possibly age (esp. if its a dive rite you'll be using). I had a rec wing for about two years, then it went to ebay. There...

Roger doger. A story for you all... I remember following line around the dock area at Cove 2 for Tech1 with Andrew (walking not in the water). I think it took us 1.5 minutes with our eyes open. Then we put hats on over our eyes and had to repeat the exercise. I think Laurynn and I took 10 or 12 minu...

There are many divers in the Tahoe area (~6500 ft) that don't do anything "special" In the no deco setting a normal ascent would be 30ft/min with 1 min stops every 10ft starting at 50% of your max depth. Working out the relative pressure changes, you'll see that sea level to 6500 ft is equ...

Its nice that wolf eels are protected from harvest - both recreational and commercial. I don't feed them either or initiate interactions. Although if one "snuggles" and plays with me I will gently reciprocate and not throw it off.

I would suggest not diving to 156ft on air/nitrox. Your judgement/abilities are probably seriously compromised as evidenced by the 5 vs. 6 ports recollection. Any little problem could overwhelm you or an increased workload can lead to CO2 retention (due to high gas density) and even more narcosis. M...

I was told about this 2nd hand by WDFW's rockfish guru. I don't remember the details but the guy had imported a bunch of lobsters and was wanting to plant them so he could start a biz. I suspect he was talking in a bar and word got around. This was supposedly ~30 years ago.
