Unidentified flatfish and shrimp
I think this guy's a dover sole. Seen at 70-80 feet somewhere between cove 1 and 2: http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6075/6105107449_6f35e57788_z.jpg http://www.flickr.com/photos/fnerg/6105107449/ And what could maybe, possible be a miniature spinyhead? Similar depth and location: http://farm7.static....

Re: Viz Reports Thread
10 or less feet at the surface at Mukilteo today, but 20-25 feet at depth. We saw a wolf eel out in the open at 120fsw near a sunken boat. It looked to be almost 6 feet long!

Awesome. So if that's what's left of the Lion's mane, what happened to the rest of it?

I have no idea what this is
I saw this... whatever it is... at Three Tree last thursday. It was just floating, perfectly neutrally buoyant, in mid-water. http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6013/6011185070_167e1c4173_z.jpg http://www.flickr.com/photos/fnerg/6011185070/in/photostream After a minute, it unfolded a bit, whether on it'...

Re: Bay goby identifiers club
Cool. Looking around on the interwebz, it looks like Blackeyed gobies can be mottled, as well as mostly pinkish brown: http://www.elasmodiver.com/Blackeye_Goby_Pictures.htm but the coloration seems to be different that the darker spots of a bay goby. This enature page even calls out the black edge o...

Bay goby identifiers club
Do I get to join? Huh? Huh? :P
Taken in Cove 3. I've been seeing a decent amount of these guys around Seacrest 2 and 3 recently. No blackeyed gobies though.

Cove 2 last night, a murky 10 feetdown to maybe 60fsw, opening up to an inky black 20 feet below that.
I did see my first, enormous school of sand lance ever though.

Today, at cove 2, I could see the surface from 45 feet down!
We also saw a bunch of juvenile salmon and what looked like baby tubesnouts in the shallows. Awesome dive today.

That's exactly what they looked like! Awesome! Do you suppose they came from Lake Washington, or the Duwamish?

Re: Pacific herring at Cove 2?
I don't think they were Sandlance. They were within inches of the surface, and I think sandlance are bottom dwellers. Their dorsal fin also didn't extend all the way along their body. It was more short and triangular.
Smelt maybe?

Pacific herring at Cove 2?
Sorry, I don't have a picture, but I saw what I thought might have been some pacific herring (Maybe 5-6) at Cove 2 this evening. They were swimming close to the surface, maybe 15 feet away from shore, presumably snacking on the huge numbers of small jellyfish at, or near the surface. They looked to ...

Saltwater state park: 10 feet down to 60fsw, then an amazing 10-15 as long as you can look past the floating crud.

Re: Viz Reports Thread
Cove 2, sunday 5 feet down to about 50-60 feet, after that, black as night, but maybe 15 feet of visibility. Is there something wrong with me that I actually really enjoyed navigating around at 100 feet with just a flashlight and a compass? It was also really cool seeing all the YOY rockfish swimmin...

Re: Viz Reports Thread
4/2, Saltwater state park.
0 close to shore, 5 feet away from shore at 15-40 fsw, then it opened up to 20-25' at 60 fsw, which would have been a lot cooler if any light managed to get past the crap.
I didn't want to leave because I knew I'd be ascending into muck.

Re: Sunday Morning Early Bird Run
I was thinking of showing up at cove 2 tomorrow morning, then heading over to Edmonds for a dive at around 12 afterwards. If you could get out to Edmonds, I could always show up there earlier.
