Hooray, I can now take medicore pictures (very very easily)!

Greetings, Back in July, you came to my rescue when I posted "Help make my terrible photos medicore". http://www.nwdiveclub.com/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=23124&p=256509&hilit=carlk3#p256509 Thanks in part to your advice, I'm now happy with my photography set up, so I thought I would...

Re: Advice for Cove 2 beginner

Thanks everyone! We dove on Sunday and had a great dive. We have been diving exclusively at Edmonds, but now realize the benefit to getting experience in 50" of water instead of always being in 25" of water. I have some follow up questions if you're game: If the map says that a buoy is 30f...

Advice for Cove 2 beginner

What's a simple dive plan for Cove 2? (It will be our 15th dive and our first time in Cove 2 since our OW certification.) Looking at http://seattledivetours.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/Seacrest-Cove-2.gif it seems that people usually go down on the white buoy with the red strip and follow the cor...

Beginners in Cove 2 on Sunday's low tide?

We're thinking of diving at Alki Cove 2 on Sunday on the low tide (the slack is at 12:22pm, after a 10.5 ft exchange). This will be our 14th dive and our first dive in Cove 2 without an instructor. (We've been diving at Edmonds.) I'd love your option on the pluses and minuses. Other comments and adv...

why? Summer low-low tides near noon, winter near midnight

Looking at the Tidelog book and http://PlanYourDive.com, it looks like the lowest tides of the summer (for example, today's -3.1 ft) are near Noon. In the winter, the lowest-low tides seem to be near mid-night. (I looked at Seattle and for 2014 and 2013 and 2020). I understand why the lowest low tid...

Re: Beach naturalists:Walk on the bottom of the sea without

The lowest tide is tomorrow (Sunday, July 13) at 12:08pm. I recommend being on the sand by 11am. Seahurst Park is closed for construction this month. South Alki Beach will be know to divers as the Alki Pipeline. Civilians can set their GPS to Beach Drive SW & 63 Ave SW.

Re: Help make my terrible photos medicore

Does anyone around here use a red filter on their point & shoot? I assume if one did, you wouldn't then use artificial light.

Thanks to everyone for their specific advice and also for the more general advice on diving experience and the distraction vs. added interest of photography.

Re: Help make my terrible photos medicore

Thanks, Thanks, Thanks Photo Doctors! Desiccant and/or the cooler: That makes sense and I didn't see or think of it. (The air temp yesterday was 20°F warmer than the water temp.) I did try some closer pictures (see attached), but that didn't work either ... likely because of the fog problem. As for ...

Help make my terrible photos medicore

Greetings, Summary: What do you think I did wrong today? Details: I just got a point & shoot camera (a Intova IC 16) and tried it a Edmonds today. Visibility was 5 to 10 feet. We were in 25 to 30 feet of water. The pictures are really, really terrible. Much worse they things looked to our eyes. ...

Beach naturalists:Walk on the bottom of the sea without gear

If you have friends or family who don't (yet?!) dive, but would still like to see what's down there, I recommend the Seattle Aquarium's Beach Naturalist program. July 12 and 13, with some of the lowest tides of the season, will be great days. Some of the best locations are S. Alki beach (south of th...

Re: Question about Sunday in the Edmonds

Thanks for all the info! It prompted me to try to learn more about title exchange. Here is some of that: http://www.scubadiving.com/drive-and-dive-seattle-puget-sound • When to Go: Winter has the best viz, but summer months allow long diving days. Avoid spring’s algae blooms and glacier runoff. ... ...

Question about Sunday in the Edmonds

I'm a beginner (nine dives) and I'm trying to understand the effect of tidal exchange in planning. (Sorry if this post is much like the thread on Hood Canal) Here are the tides for Sunday: TidesMay182014.jpg And here is the prediction of current for Edmonds: Edmonds, 2.7 wsW of, Washington Current 1...

Newly certified in Bellevue

Greetings, my wife and I just got certified via Silent World. We'll be at Edmonds, for the first time, this Sunday with someone from the shop. It looks like it will be our first dive without threat of rain and cold air. Our previous dives were at Alki and from a boat out of Tacoma. - Carl
