Re: Two Years and Progress Continues.

Pre-trauma my favorite dive destinations were Vancouver Island, Oahu, Key Largo, Maui and the lakes and ponds here. Did a little bit of river diving at our place off the road system. Had to watch out though because the water was shallow and once in awhile a jet boat would come roaring by. But, mainl...

Re: Two Years and Progress Continues.

Yes, Bonaire is a long way. I know how I fare flying down to SEA and then on to DEN. Bonaire not out of the question. But, have to plan so my body doesn't rebel at being told to sit for so long.

Maybe someplace a bit closer?

Two Years and Progress Continues.

It has been two years since the trauma and 14 months since the second surgery. Yesterday was time for a progress check and, hopefully, a morale boost. So I decided to try riding my carbon fibre road bike for the first time in the two years. Still lots of drama getting on the bike. Even got a few pun...

Makes me start rethinking the 1959 National Match I've up for sale. On a hand rest it'll put 10 in the X-ring at 50 yards. A smooth, accurate 1911 is a dream.

Ah, you understand! So many people don't. So many people in a wide variety "computerize" without understanding that the initial and ongoing organization costs are significant. Our first thing is to sort. Don't need any historical pictures of old flames. Then we are going to try, probably a...

Re: Advice Needed

Sorry I left a 0 off, 3000dpi was standard back then. Obviously technology changes and you could try something like this and see if its adequate for your wishes. <$300 is not a huge financial commitment. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Pacific+Image+-+PrimeFilm+PF7250Pro3+Film+Scanner+-+7200+dpi+Optica...

Re: Advice Needed

OK, I think I'll do the prints on my usual flat bed scanner that is sitting beside me. More research on what I can get to do the slides. I agree 300dpi is a bit gross for 35mm Kodachrome. But, you have given me some ideas on where to look for an answer. Too bad these aren't just causal snapshots. Th...

Yes,yes, yes, on the backups. Nort only is there media degradation to consider; there is tchnology change. The amont of data that has been lost or recovered at great expense due to the demise of tape and zip drives has to be a pretty big number. I have settled on multiple hard drives. Maybe I'm stra...

Re: Advice Needed

Well, we have decided to use the HDs. I've two 1T drives just gathering dust. Time to put an end to that. Still unsure what to use to make the copies. I've had advise to do everything from projecting images on ground glass and taking pictures with a top quality digital camera then transferring to co...

Re: Advice Needed

If they are worth that much to you I'd mail the slides off to someplace and have it done professionally. The prints can be done on most pro-sumer scanners just fine. It is precisely because they are worth that much to me that I Don't want to mail them off. I've lost film, re-prints, etc. in other p...

Re: Advice Needed

Interesting viewpoints about the drive and transferring the images between computer and the storage medium. I've got that part handled. What I really need to know is how to get the images copied from the slides to the Computer/HD/CD. With that volume of slides and prints doing them on a sheet scanne...

OK. If I go with my first thought and your recommendation how do I get the images from the originals to the drive? Considering quality and speed.

I've not had one fail that soon either. Since I have two empties I was going to use them. But the local said no.

Advice Needed

I have a bunch of slides and prints I want to copy to DVD. I was going to put them on terrabyte hard drives. But have been told they only last a year or so. So, DVD it is. The prints are mainly from the 1900's with a few from the late 1800's. The slides are almost all 35mm. Not sure how many but the...

WOW!!

This is something that is a bit off diving. But, several do snow ski and others compete in various sports. So: Arctic Man is a Two person Ski-Snowmachine Tow competition over a 5 mile hilly course a few miles south of here. Starts with the skier solo; then towed by the snowmachine that essentially r...

Its not the beliefs I disrespect. Its the action of spreading of them We all do our best to spread our beliefs. Look over the posts on NWDC. Many involve that person's beliefs on how to dive. Or the Kid And The Octopus incident. That was a pretty much in your face statement of belief. The person wh...

April 6 -- Last year this time a talented neurosurgeon was spending 9 hours repairing my spine. Still a long way to go. But in that year I've gone from dependence and pain to independence and no pain.
