Three Tree Nov 29
Hi A small group of us had a run of dives at Three Tree yesterday. Not quite the initial 2, 4, 6, 8 that we originally hoped but fun nonetheless. And beer after :) One of the highlights of the last dive was a couple of opal squid swimming around near a nest of eggs. The nest was still very small. I ...

Re: Gunnel had too much turkey to eat
Very nice. I can never control backscatter like that! Hi Matt, thanks. The tricks I hear people use to avoid backscatter are 1) use a lens that allows you to get closer to the subject 2) light from the side to prevent bounce-back to the lens, and 3) keep the cones of light coming off the strobes ou...

Re: Gunnel had too much turkey to eat
Hi Dave
Thanks. I might be going skiing Sunday. Let me know though, as there may not yet be enough snow to make it worth it.
Here's another pic. Note how the wolfie is half orange, half grey/blue!

TTN 11-15
Hi I joined Bassman's Thursday crew for some diving at TTN this Thursday. There were 4 dives done that day, I joined for dives 3 and 4. Viz was spectacular, as were the sights. Here were some of the highlights. We also saw lumpsuckers, octos, and other assorted goodies. TTN (2).jpg TTN (3).jpg TTN (...

Great video, looks like you had a great trip. It's been many years since I've been up there and I forgot how big the sponges were!
Love that ochre star aggregation.

Re: Redondo Nov 1
Hi H20Doc,
The batwing things (sea angels), seem to follow a cycle of swimming up the column, and then folding up their wings and drifting down again, and then repeating. I watched this one do it 5-6 times. It would make a cool video, but it would be very hard to focus, I would imagine!

Redondo Nov 1
Hi Went to Redondo with Bassman's Thursday Crew this week. Great diving as usual! Some of the finds included stubby squid, grunt sculpin, small octos, a couple sea angels, a small dog fish, a swimming(!) snailfish, small ambushing plainfin midshipman, and the usual suspects. Here are some of the pic...

I've been drying out too. Too much work! Hope I can make this one, I might take the whole day off!
Hooded nudibranchs were still at Redondo a couple weeks ago, I could be up for that! Three tree could be fun too.

Re: Shooting in RAW
Hi Welcome to the addiction! I also have a d70 (on loan from DLH). The screen is so small and of so low contrast on the d70 that it is hard to know if you've exposed right. RAW gives you more flexibility in adjusting the exposure, because it doesn't compress away some of the details like JPG does. I...
