Re: Springtime Nudibranchs at Titlow

On that third pic, it's probably another nudi ... I got something like that at Possession Pt. ferry once. When I blew it up for a closer look it was a similar (but slightly different) nudi. Scale's about the same though. Awesome pics, as always ... nice to know the nudis aren't disappearing all ove...

Springtime Nudibranchs at Titlow

Springtime at Titlow means rotten viz but there is compensation in the bloom of nudibranchs :) Here are some photos from this past Monday on a dive with my buddy Mark. There were 'gazillions' of tiny Flabellina trilineata around the pilings. Especially on the southeast corner of the outer pilings. S...

And nice hummer bird pics. What lens did you use for those?
I had my f2.8 70-200 zoom with a 1.7 TC. :)

Dan, I see you found a Mosshead Warbonnet too :) I really wanted to see one of those. Also, the starfish munching on California Berthella. And, what the heck is that flat, slug looking thing. Never seen one of those. the flat slug looking thing is a Spotted Flatworm, Eurylepta leoparda https://hers...

Re: Sechelt, British Columbia - 3/24 to 3/28

Thanks Dan. I think I got the holder and subsee diopters from reefnet.ca. They make them custom so you have to get a quote. I believe the holder was $250 and the diopter was $200. So yes, very spendy. You are welcome to try mine before making the plunge. Just let me know. that's pretty much the goi...

Re: Cloud Sponges at Porpoise Bay Charters

How many were in your group? We were up there the weekend previous and viz was incredible!!! Kirsten there were about 10 of us I think. Viz was not so great, we had a plankton bloom down to about 30 feet or so on most dives. A couple of days of sun the week prior to our visit really changed things....

So better late than never Im told...here are a few shots from our trip to the Sunshine Coast. First of all there were quite a few Nudibranches to shoot.. Not a great wide angle trip for me, I need some serious work. But here are a couple; The cloud sponges there were really epic, and a ton of them....

Hello all, well this weekend we headed to Sechelt BC to dive with Porpoise Bay Charters. First, the resort and hosts were absolutely awesome. Also, the group was excellent as always (Underwater Sports Olympia). Gdog and I headed up on the 24th and dove Whytecliff. It was a great experience and than...

interesting to see that the 'parasite' (if that's what it is) is located in exactly the same place in all three images posted here.

a parasite was my guess, I would have expected eggs to be slung under the body rather than from the side.

an odd growth on a candy stripe shrimp

I found this shrimp at Sechelt Inlet this past weekend. When I first saw it I thought that something was attached to its side, with the photo you can see that whatever it is, it appears to be just underneath the outer shell. Anyone have a guess as to what this lump is? https://hershman.smugmug.com/U...

That may be right. These two guys were only a few yards apart. One of the Wolfie's wounds looks like its healed up a bit more than the other, but it does make you wonder .

I was at Sund Rock yesterday with my buddy Mark and did two dives, one along each wall. (its very quiet there on a monday!) There was the beginning of a plankton bloom but viz was good below 30 feet, even better below 45 feet. Our second dive traversed the north wall, turning around at the trawler. ...

the water temp was a uniform 51 degrees during the whole dive, but it seemed that the affected sea stars were in the shallowest part of the wall, around 20 feet.

Octopus Hole Sea Stars

Mark and I went out to Octopus Hole yesterday, braving the rain and hailstorms that were sweeping through the area. With all the rain and wind we were expecting so-so conditions, but the viz was actually quite good, up to 30 feet. I'm happy to report that there were quite a few healthy looking sea s...

In the winter of 2015 the sand underneath the pilings was covered in mounds of barnacle shells. I know that barnacles molt, but it's pretty clear now that those creatures haven't returned.

this is fantastic reporting folks... please keep up with the observations! I will pass this thread on to the Sciency types that have been monitoring SSWS. thanks! Where have all the Titlow barnacles gone?

When you dive at a site for a number of years you begin to notice subtle changes over the years. Titlow is one of my favorite sites due in large part to the dramatic pilings covered in Plumose Anemones. One thing that has been very noticeable this year is the disappearance of the large clusters of G...
