Re: Entry level camera
I think he's out of town at the moment, but Jack at Optical Ocean Sales sells full setups (housing, strobe, arms, etc.) for a few cameras in your price range like Olympus XZ-1, Canon G12 or S95. They have a showroom on the north end of Westlake Ave in Seattle. I'd strongly recommend checking the pla...

Re: Tides and adjustments
For whatever reason (maybe liability concerns?), there doesn't seem to be much of any reliable information about this online. Dive listing sites like http://theperfectdive.com/ or the dive listings on this site generally mention if a site is current sensitive or not, but rarely say more than general...

RE: Aqualung "ABS Octopus" - cold water question
I don't recall exactly and the guy sarcastically said, "only do this if you're a trained aqualung tech". But basically, he popped it open and straightened out some flexible flap.

Re: Aqualung "ABS Octopus" - cold water question
I did the same thing last year. My partner/dive buddy and I got a deal on the same regulator setup during a sale at an LDS while out of town visiting relatives. They only had the ABS octo and the Legend octo, so I didn't spring the extra money for the Legend octo. After getting home, I noticed that ...

Re: Almost afraid to ask: what was that pink skum at Three T
I saw this stuff on Friday evening too. Upon arriving at the site, I walked down to the water to check out the conditions and noticed some light red particulates floating in the surface of the water. After gearing up and heading back down, it was completely gone but had returned by the time we surfa...

Re: Viz Reports Thread
Redondo this morning was pretty awful (about 3ft of vis) down to about 50ft. Below that it opened up to probably a little less than 10ft. With that, the deep line was definitely diveable but we gave up on the shallow line after putting up with the mud for a couple minutes.

Re: Viz Reports Thread
I went to Redondo this afternoon for a couple of dives on an incoming tide. At about 20ft there appeared to be a halocline separating really muddy water (less that 5ft vis) from substantially clearer water below (+/- 15ft of vis). Sure beats the truly terrible night dive we did at Cove 2 on Friday w...
