Re: Langley Tire Reef closing?

I've only been there once but the Dungeness crab were stacked on top of each other.....and we had no license.

Re: AL 80 Hydro

Pretty much all AL80's after 1988 in the USA are the newer alloy. The break point on Luxfers was June of 1987 or 1988. I can't remember which. If they are Catalina's they are the "good" alloy. Buy the tanks fast and then decide what to do with them. When I researched this I found about 20 ...

Re: Tire Gas and Bottle Hunting Are Killing Me

I'm certainly no expert but the few times I've done the sawtooth profile I've noticed it afterward. Never done it close to deco but I avoid it as much as possible. There has to be some problem with that.

Re: Nitrox training

Thanks Dusty, So how does it work with a separate agency? Do you have to carry 2 cards? Where we dive in Mexico I don't think I could find anybody to rent me a tank of air. I used to talk them into it occasionally but they control your diving expenditures by controlling the air supply. All boat dive...

Re: Nitrox training

Boy would I like to. Over the last 16 years we have made some good friends in Q. Roo and we like to see them. So it is more than the diving. But the diving ain't bad. We will be there 3 weeks and put 1500-2000 miles on a rental car and with luck 15-20 tanks of air or maybe enriched air.

Re: Tire Gas and Bottle Hunting Are Killing Me

When we are in Mexico and leave the windows down our friends think we are crazy....we've tried it the other way. That didn't work. Window broken and purse missing within sight of where we were walking the beach. But if they want the vehicle they will take it locked or unlocked.

Re: Nitrox training

Thanks Liz, I guess I'm getting confused between the online price and what a dive shop actually charges. My initial thought was to take the class there but looking at their website gave me sticker shock.

Re: Nitrox training

PADI no longer requires dives. I don't know where you are but I know of at least one shop in Vancouver, WA where the Enriched Air cert is $100, not $200. That is what I'm looking for but I NEVER get to Vancouver. We do get to the Seattle area some. It is only a short 270 mile drive. When I do get t...

Re: Nitrox training

Thanks RoxnDox. I have had my own retail business since the early 80's and understand liability. That doesn't mean I can't shop for a deal, as others do with me. I've studied Nitrox theory a lot more hours than most people will to get their cert. I'm looking for someone to give me a test to take to ...

Nitrox training

What would be the least expensive and least time consuming way to get a Nitrox cert? I recognize that cheapest is not always best but my only interest is being able to dive Nitrox during our Mexico trip in January. I have been mixing ours with a stick, have and can use my analyzers, know how to set ...

Re: Batteries 18650

I got a couple from China of Ebay. Don't have enough cycles on them to know if they will hold up. I see there are Panasonics on Amazon. Bet they are good. Check out candlepowerforums.com to find a bunch of people with opinions about these batteries.

Re: Frozen Dive Buddy Revisited, Advice Appreciated

I just ordered 1 on ebay. Comes from UK. Someone else may have these in the US but they are not advertising online where I can find them. I called the US supplier I could find and they had only 3 odd sizes in stock and little hope for more in a reasonable time. Does someone local carry these? http:/...

Good job you guys. I hope some of you over there will reach out to Dylan (and his friend). I hope we get protection on Seacrest and other popular heavily dived spots.

+1 on what Jeremy said. halcyon steel BP - 6lb weighted sta - 6lb 10lb in halcyon pockets on the webbing (if you configure them right, the are not floppy at all for me) and about 2-4lb on pouches on upper cam strap. depending on garment. works like a champ and I have 10lb to dump I I have to. I hop...

Re: Are we in this together?

I'm in. I suggested to Bob earlier today that he give out a Paypal address. Its easy and fast and might get more donations because of the time and thought required to write and send a check. If Bob has one it should be posted. If not lets get one set up? I have never met him either but have enjoyed ...

For not quite so "do it yourself" Coleman sells a portable propane hot water system with rechargeable battery pump that will hook up to portable water containers.

Sund Rock

Wow! Sund Rock is really nice! Did 2 dives today, North and South and could hardly believe the life. Especially above 25' it was just beautiful. Saw a BIG octopus and 2 small wolf eels and more in interesting small things than you can shake a stick at. Must get back soon. I'm jealous of those of you...
