Re: GPO Input needed!

There was a similar Octo incident at Les Davis probably around 2004/2005(?), but that was pre-cameraphone, pre-facebook.

Looks like it was also probably pre-NWDC and info about that one most likely died with the old northwestdiver forum...

Re: CF200 vs. FLX Extreme

Owned my CF200 since probably 2005 and my FLX Extreme since 2011. Mostly I'm diving the FLX. Its pretty bulletproof. I had previously liked my CF200 due to it not wearing out (other than zippers and neck/wrist seals), it just doesn't get pinhole leak issues or seam issues like my old DC or what I've...

Re: Woman diver fatality at Redondo

I've heard a conflicting story about this accident which was that it had nothing to do with current at all and was not an OOA situation and she simply went unconscious at 20 feet at the end of the dive. Sounded like it might have been a medical issue.

Re: Pm's arnt there ?

i know on unix systems if you have temporary failures sending e-mail they'll get dropped in the mail queue on the server. there's supposed to be a process that cleans those out, but sometimes it'll be misconfigured and once its fixed it can suddenly result in months-old and years-old e-mails finally...

Re: Interesting article from John Chatterton

From Chatterton's article: So, these guys are getting suited up and talking over their dive plan, and it comes to talking about supplying gas to the other diver, in an emergency? It was like, “This is my long hose, but if you have to take a regulator, blah blah blah”, kind of stuff. This was their t...

+1 on bill.

if you start setting up your own boats, you'll need enough people lined up to deal with folks dropping out last minute due to colds, etc.

Re: weight loss and weighting

I lost 35-40# and didn't notice a huge weighting difference, haven't noticed a huge difference in the pool either. I know it has some effect on paper, but unless you're dropping 100's of lbs the effect will be washed out by more important differences (different BCD/wing, different drysuit, different...

Snake at 150'

Dove deadman's/lobstershop today and found a critter at 150 that looked like a snake. Very thin and slender (kinda like a bay pipefish), nearly a foot long, predominantly translucent and small head and nose, and slithered through the water the way a snake moves. Looked more snake that fish, but didn...

Re: Tire Gas and Bottle Hunting Are Killing Me

Subclinical DCS flu is quite different than ordinary thermal stress, and the effects of CO2 are easily differentiable by the splitting headache after the dive.

Re: Tire Gas and Bottle Hunting Are Killing Me

Last time I had an "undeserved" subclinical fatigue-and-feverish hit was probably with less than a hundred dives at redondo on 21%. Nearly fell asleep on the way home and curled up next to the heater on full blast with feverish chills for a few hours and slept it off. Since then I've both ...

Re: Tire Gas and Bottle Hunting Are Killing Me

thermal conductivity and heat capacity of O2 and N2 are close enough to not make any practical difference, particularly between 21% and 32%. any difference between air and nitrox as suit inflation or breathing gas is going to be placebo effect.

Re: Lake Washington PBM and Boeing I-90 bridge section

WA has built alot of pontoons and pontoon-like things over the years. The multibeam bathymetry around both bridges is littered with pontoon stuff. I'm not 100% sure that's actually a bridge section, I've only been there once personally quite awhile ago when I couldn't find the PBM. The powerplant i...

Lake Washington PBM and Boeing I-90 bridge section

A few weekends back we went out with Bill Minton and northwestdivecharters.com on Lake Washington and dove the PBM and the I-90 bridge section in the very south end of the lake. These are a couple of really good dives for recreational divers which I have not seen anyone exploiting in recent years. T...

Re: Missing Diver off South Bainbridge

Am I the only one not entirely shocked that a 24 year old kid did something stupid and selfish? And its also not really any worse than people who dive legally intoxicated on alcohol on vacation. Drugs, including alcohol and tobacco, are a bad mix with diving. And if anyone on this thread is condemni...
