Each one of us has our own comfort level for self-exposure. :pale: There's a reason why public speaking is consistenly listed as people's number one fear in surveys. :rr: And as someone who does it at least twice a week (public speaking, that is) I can tell you that part of my effectiveness as a co...

Here's the Wikipedia entry on tides.

Basically, at full and new moons, the earth, sun, and moon are in a line and the gravitational pull of the moon and sun combine to create higher than average high tides and lower than average low tides.

Yes, you are correct, on the 26th the moon reached its full phase within a few hours of perigee, when it is closest to the earth. http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap071025.html I love astronomy. Sargent Pepper and I did a dive at Cove 2 that night, the sky was perfectly clear, and the moon was stun...

FWIW, there was a interesting lunar event on Thursday night, I think it was, where the moon was WAY closer to the earth than normal. Something about Apogee and Perigee moons? Sorry, don't have it straight, but perhaps the strangeness you guys experienced at dive sites in the few days following that...

Thanks for the kind words. It's true that we don't often hear about the bad days here. I love the "Life Lessons" column in Scuba Diving magazine for that very reason. 2 weeks ago I dove EUWP based on the current tables and had a lovely 45 minute dive. According to the current tables I look...

Did the pumpkin carving contest Saturday at EUWP. It would've been fun if it had been better planned and I'd been more on the ball.... Went with 2 buddies. Buddy A used his steel 120. Buddy B and I used his AL80's. The problem is that I've been diving borrowed or rented steel tanks, and didn't check...

Because I'm a geek, and because I'll take any excuse to get wet, I'm carving a pumpkin at 25 fsw! Should be fun, and a good excuse to use my new Blue Tang. :supz: My buddy's bringing his extensive photo setup and is gonna capture some pics of me hacking up the pumpkin. Outstanding! =D> Anybody else ...

My wife's roomate before she joined the military was a stripper. It was intersting to learn the ins and outs of that industry, and sad at times. EDIT: forgot to add, at $400-500 a night though, she was pretty well off. I dated a dancer (their preferred term) for 10+ years. The freedom and flexibili...

Thank you thank you thank you!

I thought I was reading it right. Can't wait to dive. I should be at the park at about 1:00, maybe a little later, in the water probably around 2. Maybe I'll see one of y'all there. If not, soon!

Peace,

Scott

I hate to burst your bubble, but Edmonds UWP is barely affected by the current. I've been there many, MANY times and haven't felt more than a slight flutter, not even significant enough to move you off course. Edmonds Oil Dock, however, whoa! The current there is remarkable. I have vivid memories o...

Am I reading this current table right?

Gonna try to dive EUWP Sunday. Using the corrections, slack times are 2:51 AM, 8:36 AM, 3:44 PM, and 6:34 PM. If I hit the water at 2 PM, the current should continue to lessen until the slack time, correct? Obviously I need to take a tide/current class, but I need to be wet more than I need to be in...

I like the idea, however, the weather forecast for this weekend is nasty; tides aren’t great either ’damn’. We need to give this idea some time to generate a little momentum. Sunday Oct 14th has a shallow 4ft flood and good tides at Everett :book: ; maybe that would be a date to plan on. EXCELLENT!...
