Re: Sore Butt But I Did It

I'm not confident enough in my balance on road tires to get the water bottle while I'm moving. That will come with practice I guess. I take it the bottle is in a frame-mounted cage? If you can ride with one hand on your bars you can grab the bottle while moving. Take a half hour riding up and down ...

Re: Sore Butt But I Did It

I can't even imagine riding on road bike tires when I was the slightest bit impaired! Of course since a road bike takes more coordination to balance maybe the situation would take care of itself, eh?

Re: Sore Butt But I Did It

... Do you think that 60 miles is closer to being within reach? Again, awesome achievement!!! I didn't know I could do this until I did it. The only pauses were for a minute every half hour or so to take a drink from my water bottle. I'm not confident enough in my balance on road tires to get the w...

Sore Butt But I Did It

This is offered as Testimony and Encouragement. Everyone needs a Big Adventure in their lives. As you know I've been working on cardio fitness and bicycling. Today was both Test Time and Adventure Time. A few days ago I signed up to ride 33 miles over chip coat and long grades out to hot springs eas...

Re: There will be blood

Prevention: Well, in a past life, I used the "Brown Eyeball Award". This was a replica of an eyeball that had thin brown transparent stain on it. Hence, The Brown Eyeball. When someone made a Dumb Dumb they got the Brown Eyeball for having their head up and locked. It did wonders for situa...

Re: There will be blood

Hmmmm...which Danny Glover movie was it when he exclaimed after shooting the bad guy with a nail gun: "I nailed the sucker". Lethal Weapon 2 Thanks. That is one of my favorite scenes from a classic series. What reminded me was that I was watching a re-re-re-run of Silverrado when this thr...

Re: There will be blood

Is there anyone who hasn't nailed a body part with a nail gun? Mine happened when I was building a stage set for a presentation at the church. It was a coil gun that fired with the nose trigger, only. Stud to sill, angle off and WHAM right through two 2Xs into my fingers. My my what language ensued....

Light Cannon For Sale

I've got a Light Cannon HID that I just don't need. It has had a few dives on it and has been used a couple times outside in the winter here. It works just fine.

Send me $100 and you pay the shipping and it is yours.

Re: How snug are fins supposed to fit?

Thanks. Yes, I guess the correct word to describe the feel is that they "wobble". It takes a little pull on the spring straps to get them over my heels. So, I don't think I should lose them. At least I hope not. We'll see how they feel after a few dives.

How snug are fins supposed to fit?

I just decided to switch from my Blades to OMS Slipstream fins. Both have spring straps. My Blades fit very snug. My foot doesn't move around in them at all. In fact if I don't break the suction by inserting a finger down the sole of my booty it is hard to get them off. These are the fins my OW inst...

Re: Share My Happiness

>>Checked around here. Seems the "no flat" tires are referred to as "hardcase" tires. Weigh about 120g or so more than regular tires and cost about $10 more. But, the good news, my new bike came with top of the line regular tires. Seems they don't go flat very often; unlike cheap...

Re: Share My Happiness

If the trail you describe is anything like what I'm envisioning you may want to consider a gnarlier bike to handle the terrain. I hate to tell you to buy yet another bike but from what I've seen of hybrids suggests the most I'd ever do with one is a flat gravel road with no potholes at low speeds. ...

I grew up in New Mexico. I know all about goat heads, and I don't miss them at all. Have you ever stepped on one barefoot, them tried to pull it out and simultaneously stepped on one with the other foot? I think it's a rite-of-passage for desert-dwellers. i did that exact dance where i grew up in N...

Re: Share My Happiness

Very cool. Yeah flats can be common with road bikes. When you get one (not if ) take the tire off and inspect it to make sure whatever gave you the flat in the first place won't give you another 10 minutes later. Learned that the hard way. Keep an eye on that carbon frame. First sign of a crack (ad...

How's the training going? :naka: Today I was a Safety Biker for the Tour de Cure. That meant 21 miles through the foothills behind the other bikers. Rode my new road full carbon road bike. I had been warned about road bikes getting a lot of flats. But, none; and it was pretty big holes and gravel i...

Re: Share My Happiness

Thanks for sharing with me. It always helps. My plan now is to do my first long ride the end of this month. It will be a highway ride where I have a choice of starting at the beginning for about a 60 mile ride one way, or from approximately half-way. Once there I get a ride back. 60 miles, 30 miles?...

Share My Happiness

As some of you know in late March I modified my exercise program to add Spin Class to my usual weight regimen. In the process of that class I dropped 15 pounds and took the belt up 2 notches. Now that the snow is gone I've been biking in the rolling hills around home. Typically around 15 miles or so...

Re: What would you do if...

One thought structure I use is the Rule of Threes. Way back in Spad days we used to figure that almost all accidents happened as the third thing that went wrong. Not very common for a serious accident to happen after the first problem. By number three though things are getting very tight. Another is...

Re: What would you do if...

One question: Where is the buddies bag? If the buddy is drifting off why isn't that person shooting a bag? Posts seem to assume that the buddy is totally unable or incompetent to help themself. Nothing in the original scenario would lead me to believe that is the case.

Re: What would you do if...

There are two imperitives working in this scenario. One is to take care of the buddy. Another is to not cause two casualities unnecessarily. Of course the mere fact that the buddy drifts off doesn't mean that person will end up a casualty. To presuppose that will be the outcome is not thinking rati...

Re: Kudos to NiteRider

Thnks for the evaluation. In my new interest of cycling, not biking :), I am looking for a light for my cycle. I'll move Nightrider to the top of the pile. In a previous life when I lived in Los Angeles, I was active in cycling and mountain biking. I used a NiteRider light that was fantastic. At the...
