Re: E-PL1 Users Group

a. We should expand to an Olympus Pen Users Group b. I just did an experiment using my E-PL1, kit lens at 42mm, f 5.6 and using various "macro" add on lenses starting with the Oly PMLA-EPO1 adapter & PTMC-01 and then stacking some AGFA addons I got at Amazon -- http://www.amazon.com/4-...

Re: A friend wants to get OW certified...

Depending on timing (both the friend and the trip), she should also consider doing her confined water work here and the open water dives in Hawaii as a referral.

Then, after some dives in warm, clear water, when she returns, she can be introduced to our life filled "cooler" waters.

I hope you are "impressed" with Premier as opposed to the AVI. I'll confess I don't use video very much and when I do, I end up using Windows Movie Maker -- simple but it works

OK - All E-PLx users -- how about a Users Group Dive this Saturday with the Club Dive?

Re: DSLR versus compact camera?

Jen -- I've become a huge fan of the "evil" cameras (electronic viewfinder, interchangeable lenses). I was an early adopter of the Oly E-PL1 system and am still a fan. I'll upgrade some time but when, who knows (perhaps when one gets flooded?). As with a DSLR, it is the glass that's most i...

Re: Where do i go for classes and certification

OK -- since my name has come up, I'll just provide some information about me and several of the others who have been mentioned. First of all, we ALL know each other and dive with each other -- not only that, but we refer students to each other. In fact, Bob, Scott and I are all "affiliated"...

TJ -- Of course we'll all be kind and gentle (cough, cough). However, why don't you give us some background -- how long you've been diving, where you like to dive, etc. I'm particularly interested in why you decided to become a DM -- what do you want out of your program, what do you want to do once ...

Re: E-PL1 Users Group

Thanks for bringing this back up. a. We should do a "Users Group" dive -- if I could only find the time I'm try to organize one -- but not until the end of October! b. I got an email last week (?) from Olympus advertising the housing for $199 -- trying to decide if I should get one (backup...

Re: WTB backplate and single tank wing

Just a quick note on this, Bubbles Below, in Woodinville, has the DSS steel BP/W (Taurus, 35 pound) in stock and ready for pickup. Who knows, you might even be able to talk Bud into some sort of discount! Add the 14 pound plate weights and you have a great PNW rig that will last a lifetime and will ...

Re: What's new in PADI? Buoyancy, BCD removal and tables.

This is one of those discussions that gets pretty heated now and then. a. "PADI" doesn't teach any one -- individual instructors who are certified by PADI teach -- and yes, there IS a difference. In fact, a PADI instructor CAN teach "gas management" even at the Open Water level. ...

Re: Northwest Dive and Travel Show Photo Contest Ringer

I agree with John on this -- which means I must disagree with my friend and all too-infrequent dive buddy, Scott. This is an issue that comes up in my other hobby, dressage (riding in the sand box for those who aren't in the know!). The national federation, United States Equestrian Federation, has t...

My guess is that everyone will find the various PEN line of cameras will all have very similar issues and so we should all be able to learn from each other.

Re: Northwest Dive and Travel Show Photo Contest Ringer

What was interesting about the article on God's Pocket and that it never was published is that Scott was (at the time) a "contributing editor" (or some such nomenclature) of the magazine. However, I suspect the real reason it never saw ink was that GP didn't adverise in NWDN but that the H...

OP -- congratulations on getting hooked. Even though you didn't ask, I'm going to comment on your desire to become a "professional" in the scuba world. I made that decision about a year after getting back into diving at about dive number 100. In my wondering/wandering path to becoming a DM...

Re: Drysuit Training - BCD, Suit or Both.

+1 on "doing what works." I'm one of those that started out trying to use my drysuit only (full neoprene one) and it worked OK but then concluded it made more sense to use my BCD primarily with enough gas in the suit to not be squeezed. (And, with an uncompressed neoprene suit, one also ne...

In addition to posting this on the NWDC, did you send the information to Rick Stratton and ask him if he was aware of the violation of the rules? If not, please do so and let us all know his response (if any!). I didn't enter this year because of the (small) fee and the fact that even though I enter...

Re: Probably a stupid question but I have to ask

Very sound but with 2 divers in the family, it will take some time (and some serious treasure) to get set up. Well, maybe, but maybe not -- honest. Laura said it pretty well in that there are two basic parts to the "whole Team Diving" thing -- especially as defined by GUE and UTD. The one...

Re: Travel Bag for Carry-on

Scott, just accept that you'll need to check at least one bag. Also, you don't save much, if any, time by not checking a bag (except perhaps at SeaTac) since customs generally takes longer than having your bag available for retrieval. By the way, I had Mexican authorities confiscate a set of Allen w...
