Re: Dive Rite canister light

I'm looking for a dive rite aluminum light head if anyone has a junked one they are willing to sell. Going to upgrade it for personal use.

And no, I don't want a maglight modified light. I'll draw up some designs and send them to an online lathe shop before then.

Re: To GoPro or not GoPro.... that is the question

Just buy the cheap plastic flat lens and if you are truly impressed with it, buy a better housing. But that cheap plastic lens will satisfy you, just keep it in 1080.

haha.. and more flammable than argon! Methane has half the molecular weight of air.. pretty cold gas.. so you better eat lots of beans to keep that drysuit warm.. and stand clear of any open flames or dive buddies when you unzip :p You know how I know you're a tech diver? You really know your gasses!

Re: Contact lenses and diving

Three words, Laser Eye Surgery. I used to wear glasses (20/200 with astigmatism) but now I don't wear anything but sunglasses and mask while diving =D . Eventually the surgery pays for itself, and I have had no complications(I had PRK done) (Sorry for going off track) The problem with lasik is the ...

Re: gopro cameras?

That looks exactly like my V1 housing underwater. Glad it works for you, but I found it intolerably blurry for what's sold as a 1080p HD video camera. I am probably full of sour grapes because I pre-ordered and the issue was unknown at that time, and it was a nasty surprise on my first use. In hind...

Re: Trouble Descending

First, off, I'll preface this with I'm not asking for advice, its just a question... I know in the pure school of diving, you go feet first, and flatten somewhere on the way down. Sans the argument of feet versus head first descents, is flipping and powering down such a bad thing? Since you are not...

Re: Can lights

Lumen and battery specs are interesting too! The main reason i post like this; I bought a light that information wasn't correctly spec'd(edge light with a maglight led claiming 6-10 times what it's rated for). From that day forward I have been learning and bringing to light(pun intended) the true i...

Re: Can lights

The big problem here is that unlike halogen or kripton bulbs is that led's do not dim when the power goes down. They may flicker or get brighter them dimmer then back again but they don't give you the warning that conventional bulbs do. Due to the fact that most LED's have a power controller that c...

Re: Can lights

Uhuh whatever. Some of us buy 5 or 6 hour rated packs and only use them for 2 or 3 hrs for a reason. 80-90% blah blah doesn't matter to me. I am intentionally only using maybe 60% max of the pack capacity because I don't want to replace them. The can itself is only marginally bigger than something ...

Re: Can lights

The other side of the using 80 to 90% of your battery is that the good chargers won't recognize a battery that is drained below a given voltage. Thus they will not charge fully drained batteries and using an unregulated power supply to charge batteries is dangerous. Having a couple of extra packs a...

Re: Can lights

Besides you ain't going to find a canister battery pack for $30 anywhere else. That is why I went with the design I did. You can buy them from almost any RC model store anywhere and if your going to the boonies where you have no power 2 or 3 extra packs won't break the bank or take up allot of lugg...

. Plus with lithium battery you are not suppose to fly with most of them, they are to big and hazardous. There was a big discussion on tds about this misconception. You are allowed a max of two 300watt batteries. And under 100 watts all you want so long as they are installed in your device. I'm mob...

Re: And boom goes the scooter dynamite. (TBM)

I think the main problem is battery. These things just use a lot of power, even the efficient ones which for 2-3 hours of burn time you have to have a lithium chemistry. But lithium scooters are new. Lithium is newish and expensive. New + expensive + a lot of R & D = expensive.. To be honest I'...
