Re: E-PL1 Users Group

Actually, "Peter" has as his default settings for macro:

ISO -- 200

Shutter speed -- 1/160

F-stop -- f11

Raw+JPEG hi quality

Strobe -- Inon D2000 set at lSTTL -- fill flash

I move my strobe around a lot.

Re: E-PL1 Users Group

I confess I have the macro adaptor, PTMC-01, and never use it. I'm just happy with the basic system:

Re: E-PL1 Users Group

Does the zoom ring actually add a lot of extra or desireable flexibility? Yes, it does add a lot of extra [desirable] flexibility. Simply put, at 14 mm (widest) you have a much wider view, at 42 mm (zoomed) you have a much tighter view: Wide (14mm): http://www.belowandbeyond.biz/images/wide.jpg Zoo...

E-PL1 Users Group

I think we should start an E-PL1 Users Group -- so I'm starting one. Rules: a. Must use an Olympus E-PL1 to be a full member. b. Any user of an Olympus E-PL2 - 5 - x can be an associate member! c. Any housing is permitted -- use of the Olympus Housing is "preferred" !!! OK, first tip: a. I...

Re: Outrageous Deal on Camera and Housing

a. I'm going to start a new thread on the E-PL1 -- a virtual camera club. b. It looks like the 14-42MM II lens (the one that apparently comes with this package) needs the OTHER zoom ring -- Optical Oceans (Jack's place on Westlake) has them -- http://opticaloceansales.com/ports-extensions-and-gears/...

Re: Outrageous Deal on Camera and Housing

I realized I have a copy of "Underwater Shooting Tricks Using the PT-EP01 Underwater Case" that was released by Olympus some time ago. It appears I got the file from Optical Oceans -- http://opticaloceansales.com/files/guide_E-PL1.pdf (it took a while to load). While perhaps not a lot of g...

Re: Outrageous Deal on Camera and Housing

To whomever asked about the Zen Dome Port and the kit lens -- it is supposed to work very well together. Oh, and something that I don't think has been mentioned -- you need to get the "zoom ring" which fits onto the lens so that you can use the zoom while it is in the housing. It may not (...

Re: Outrageous Deal on Camera and Housing

The first generation kit lens is "slow to focus" compared to a dslr but "how fast is fast?" I went to the E-PL1 from a Canon S80 and found the focus was faster and more accurate on the E-PL1 especially once I upgraded the software for the lens (which all existing kit lenses shoul...

Re: Outrageous Deal on Camera and Housing

Jenn -- great decision to buy a second one! A few comments about this system: a. Video is 720p, not 1080 but I, for one, can't tell the difference. b. The standard kits lens which comes with the camera isn't the greatest for video because it is a little noisy and isn't the greatest at following a su...

Outrageous Deal on Camera and Housing

Adorama is again selling the Olympus EPL-1 with housing for $399! The EPL-1 is an "old" micro 4/3rds camera (the latest version is the EPL-5) but it is still a good one (I have 3!). If I didn't already have three bodies, two 14-42 mm lenses and two housings, I would buy this as a spare! ht...

Viz Report -- Cove 2 & Lk Washington Needed...

I'm taking an OW class out tomorrow (viz permitting) and would like to go to Cove 2 but won't if the viz is terrible.

IF anyone has up to the minute info, please respond.

thanks.

Re: Weight System for BP/W

Another vote for the DUI system. I like to be able to get my weight OFF the BP/W (even though I use Tobin's weight plates) so that it is easier to manuever. I can't wear, and really dislike, wt belts -- thus, the DUI harness is the answer.

YMMV

Ling with something in its mouth -- what?

Lynne, Bob, Sam and I were at EUP last week and playing with our cameras. I found a ling (big one) that looked like it was trying to regurgitate something. It also had a BIG mouth so I took pictures. Now I don't think Ling's have tongues, so what is it? http://www.belowandbeyond.biz/images/ling.jpg

Re: Hello from a traveling nomad!

Sitkadiver -- that's interesting. Lynne and I have two Fusions available to use (Sm/M; L/Xl) and one DUI and, of course, there are several shops in the area that rent suits. We also have a pool at our house that is heated during the summer but "dry suit compatible" pretty much all year aro...

Weight Pouch Lost Cove 2 - Saturday

One of my students lost a weight pouch from his BC Saturday, Cove 2. IF you find one (guessing somewhat close to shore although he really didn't know which just goes to show how much less weight some people REALLY need when they relax) please let me know.

Thanks.
