Re: Worthington hp 100 alloy problem
I got the call at work, I was a little surprised, and unfortunately I did not ask any questions beyond how to get some tanks that I can use. All they said was it was an issue with the alloy. I searched worthingtons site, and could find no information about anything like that. I'll give them a call t...

Re: Worthington hp 100 alloy problem
So it sounds like it is not an alloy problem, maybe some other manufacturing anomaly. These were a matched set, both failed.

Worthington hp 100 alloy problem
I took a couple of hp 100s into Oly UW sports for fills last week, turns out they were due for hydro, so I left them there. Got a call yesterday, seems they have an alloy that is a problem- they condemned them! It seems worthington is taking care of it, I just have to pay for the shipping- 40 bucks ...

Nice report. We were there also 4 years ago in march. That is outside the prime diving time, but it was great diving anyway. I have to agree that the character of the town is just about as friendly as anyplace I have been. Glad you had a great trip. How big was the Octo?

What is your schedule like? We live in Longview, and when the conditions seem good we try to go. You would be welcome to accompany us. We were in Monterey a couple weeks ago, and it was nice, lots of life, interesting terrain. The diving can indeed be challenging, you have surf and surge to deal wit...

I find the sidemount system interesting. One question, if you are breathing off the bungeed reg, am I correct that you need to unclip the other reg to donate?

Re: my latest passion ... sidemount diving
That's an interesting point about needing to maintain the redundant rock bottom values. I hadn't considered that disadvantage over manifold doubles. (And no I'm not spending Saturday morning on the computer. I'm killing time at a parts counter waiting for a new saw chain to be made up.) Its rock bo...

Bay Area Dive shop
We are heading down to The Bay area for a graduation (San Jose State), and the graduate has agreed to dive with us. We will be flying back, so we wanted to rent tanks and weight down there. Does anyone know of a shop that would likely have steel 100's with din valves? The talk is of diving Monterey ...

Re: Gear Suggestions
First off, Granite, I think you would be happier with a drysuit. When I started around here I used an oneil semi dry suit, and it worked fine for me in warmer seasons, or on an unseasonably warm day in the winter. You get a little chilled, but you can warm up between dives. A little cooler full of h...

Re: Transitioning from Student to Dive Buddy.
I didn't say that your 129 dollar class wasn't a good one. I do believe that what Bob said about getting what you pay for in general, has a cause and effect relationship that can be measured. And I don't think that the agency standards are optimum, so I look for the Instructors who have a higher sta...

Re: Transitioning from Student to Dive Buddy.
I find it funny in a sport where the money required to get your gear together is measured in thousands, at least here in the northwest, that it is common to cheap out on the single investment that will do us the most good, will give us the greatest advantage in getting the most enjoyment out of the ...

Re: Transitioning from Student to Dive Buddy.
I totally agree that if you want a good education, you need to pay for it, and put in the work necessary to master the subject. I just don't think the 129 dollar open water class is a good thing. It may be a great marketing strategy, but it is not a good way to turn out good, safe, dive buddies.

Re: Transitioning from Student to Dive Buddy.
I really wish this was the standard. For some instructors, it is the standard. I have been diving with one of Bdubs OW students, who is a great buddy, is always where I can find him, always knows where I am, has great comfort in the water, deals with equipment problems etc. without losing his buoyan...

Welcome Le Roi. You sound like someone I would like to dive with. Chris, you sound like the kind of guy we all want to do business with. I wish you guys had been around when I bought my scubapro regs, which are great, BUT, customer service has regressed with the slide in the economy, and having a free parts for life warranty is impossible (or at least unlikely) to...
