Re: Coverting regulator back to Yoke before a trip
I kept my original SP mk25 in yoke format for traveling to warmer places. I tend to prefer carrying my single Alu 80s higher in my cambands for best trim, so like keeping my first stage low profile. I did convert another first stage from yoke to DIN, and found that the conversion is a lot more expen...

Re: Keystone Sat 1/28
It turned out to be a rather chilly day, but the weather cooperated as well as might be expected for the end of January. The wind and waves were both manageable. A few of us stopped at the celebrated Pickles Deli for coffee and picked up sandwiches for later. IMG_0682.JPG I've never seen so many div...

Re: Keystone Sat 1/28
If the marine forecast holds true, the SE wind shouldn't be too bad. The beach next to the rock jetty faces south, so the waves shouldn't be too high close to shore. Hope we get some sun tomorrow like we had today.

Re: Primary Light Recommendations
For diving in our dark, murky waters around Puget Sound, nothing beats a 35W HID. The focused center spot penetrates farther to see under all the nooks & crannies, and the spill illuminates the surrounding area. LEDs still don't have that focus. The only drawback is that the bulbs need to be rep...

Re: Wet suit for loan?
I definitely recommend a full length 3mm or better for Cozumel. I managed to do it with a shorty a couple years ago, but only lasted the week by adding a 1mm hooded vest on the third day, plus wearing a windbreaker on the boat ride back. Even with warmer water temps, it's nice to have full length co...

I'm out of the water for a while, waiting for skin surgery on my nose to fully heal. But Keystone is such a pretty place, that I might tag along for shore support. Curious about the Pickles Deli, too. I'm familiar with the Greenbank Cafe, but not this other place. Hope the weather is amenable. Sent ...

Drysuit: Extra layer of clothes, how much extra lead?
For a given single tank or twinset, my weight varies by abut 5 lbs between my summer and winter undies. I wear the same underarmor base layer, hood and socks year round, and enjoy feeling a bit warmer with the summer water temps. My summer undergarments are the 4th Element Ozone jacket and trousers ...

Re: A good fill in the Seattle area?
Evergreen Dive Service in Everett has been giving me consistently good fills. Even when I ask for EAN30 in a twinset of steel 72s they come back at 2400 psi and within a tenth or so of 30%.
They now get all of my business for filling tanks.

Yeah, the pics of Jesse with the cider block are priceless! I'm not sure which is more amusing, hanging the block from his belt, or swimming around in circles tethered to a stationary concrete anchor.

Did you carry the concrete block with you, or stay tethered to a radius around it?

Had great vis at EUP tonight (11/9). Probably 20' plus, limited mostly by the reach of our lights. Lots of shrimp everywhere we went.

Nah, that's not surge. More like a gentle dive compared to typical N California conditions. ;-)
Loved the Boulder Alley clip. Looks like a beautiful place to dive.

Yes, paying the fee gives access to the road and the lower parking area. There is a short distance from there to the table and beach access.

Re: Prescription Mask...
A full prescription mask well worth it, and costs less than a nice pair of prescription sunglasses. I'm using one from Sea Vision. They have options for bifocals, which I need as well. You need your prescription and a simple measurement of the distance between your pupils. https://www.seavisionusa.c...

Amber/yellow colored mask lens
I've never tried one underwater, but as a photographer I know that all color filters decrease the amount of light that passes through them. Your eyes and brain are remarkably adept at correcting for color imbalance, but nothing will make up for the absorption of red light by seawater better than a g...

The Man's partner Terry was suffering from an imbalance in body jewelry. That was corrected tonight by adding a matching piece to his right side.

Drysuit hoods
I used a zippered Seasoft hood for a while. I found the zipper to be more trouble than it was worth; difficult to completely close and the zipper prevented it from forming around my neck. The Waterproof hood stretches enough to go over my head, then forms a good seal.

Re: Drysuit hoods
I can highly recommend the Waterproof 10mm hood. It is significantly warmer than the 8mm hoods I used to wear.
