Re: Hello From Catalina!

No turtles yet, but we're still hoping. We're using 7mm wetsuits and doing just fine. We have 14 people on the boat and it's about half and half between wet and dry. The water is about 70-75 degrees, so it just depends on how cold one tends to get. We have one person in a 3mm wetsuit and that's not ...

Re: Hello From Catalina!

Ryan, it was gorgeous yestreday. 70 feet down we could still see the surface, and we found the moray during our safety stop. There's a two-spot octopus out there somewhere, too, Janna and Claude saw it the previous evening. As far as water conditions, they're saying a system is supposed to be coming...

Hello From Catalina!

Kathy and I are down here with Janna Nichols and the REEF crew to do some surveys for the week. We went out to the dive park today to do weight checks. I put my wetsuit on for the first time in years, and for a moment I wasn't sure I remembered how. But we got it done, had a great dive, and I saw my...

That is a great price. If I didn't already have as many as I need, I would grab it. Whoever does snatch this up won't be sorry. You can't beat these lights!

Re: Dive light

A triple +1 to the Dusty's Lights. I've had mine for about 3 years now and wouldn't use anything else. It's the best lumen for the money you will ever see, methinks.

BCD Inflator

Mine seems to be stuck with a slow leak. Tuesday while diving Redondo, I had to empty my BCD about every 5 minutes because it kept filling up. I soaked the valve as best I could, tested it, and it's definitely leaking. Does anybody know a quick way to unstick one of these things?

Les Davis 9-12-15

I went out with Tami, Kathy, and Paul. We entered the water around 9:30 AM, and it was so mucky we couldn't see to put our fins on. There were several classes out there so that may have had something to do with it. This was Tami's first time back in the water since she got cleared to dive again, so ...

Re: Parking at Three Tree North

We were there yesterday and met a videographer who has been documenting the octopus hatch told us that, even though he was over 40 feet away from the sign the day before, he still got a $50 ticket. After his dive he was out there taking pictures and measuring and all kinds of stuff so he could fight...

I wish the article said more about *how* he got separated and disappeared, but it's really vague on that point. Sad.

I was wondering that myself, Janna. Dusty, thanks, I'll take you up on that. I also need to buy another diffuser disc from you, so I'll try to call you later.

Could Have Been A Lot Worse

Our usual gang headed to Les Davis yesterday for a nice easy dive. We geared up, got in the water, swam out to where we could drop, and went down in about 12 fsw. We were poking around, looking in the eelgrass and generally getting ourselves situated for a moment or so, then we started toward the sl...

Re: Another Perch Question

It actually seems to be growing out of their gills. We saw at least a dozen fish like this among the big school that was right under the dock.

Another Perch Question

While diving at Mike's last week, we also saw several shiner perch with this stuff on them. It looked like it was making it really hard for them to swim. I give up; what is it?

Black Perch?

These little guys are all over the place under the dock at Mike's, mingling with the rest of the various kind of perch, but we've never seen black ones before. When the light hits them just right (unlike in the photo below) it seems like we can see the two yellow bars characteristic of the shiner pe...

Did It Actually Choke???

Kathy and I were diving at Mike's Beach Resort yesterday afternoon when we came upon a three foot spiny dogfish at around 40 feet. It didn't move very fast; it was dead. It has another fish jammed in its mouth, and that left us wondering: did this guy actually choke on his food? We tried to pull the...

SubGear SG-30

I'm looking rather intensely at this regulator. The price is right, it's a division of Scuba Pro so servicing etc. shouldn't be an issue, it seems to be everything I need and nothing I don't. But I can't find a single review of it online. Has anybody here used it, or know anybody who has used it, or...

Mystery Spots

We found this roughback sculpin at around 45 fsw on a dive this afternoon at Mike's Beach Resort. There were roughbacks all over the place, but this was the only one with these big red spots on its head. Can somebody tell me what's going on with those? Sorry for the slight fuzziness, my case was a l...

I'm thinking this shrimp looks kinda full of eggs,
eggshrimp.jpg
especially when I compare it to this one.

But I'm not familiar with these things, so am I way off here? Or did we catch a glimpse of the next generation at Redondo yesterday?
