Re: Dive sites near Cabo San Lucas?

Cabo Pulmo is awesome for sheer amount of life, but it's a heckuva boat trip if you leave from Cabo (especially when there's bad weather on the return trip like we had). Gordo Banks is awesome when conditions are right -- in the space of 5 minutes there we saw a huge school of hammerheads and a huge...

Re: NW Dive and Travel Photo competition

I know there are a lot of very talented up and coming photographers on this board, so let me just put this out there.... Having others evaluate and appreciate your work is a very important part of the photographic growth process. WIthout an outside influence to tell us what works and what doesn't, w...

Lost dive light at Redondo

Hey everyone, I think I lost a dive light at Redondo this weekend. It was likely just north of the pier in shallow water, although I can't be positive. The light is a 1000 lumen Dive Right in Scuba light -- gray in color, and about 6 inches long. If anyone sees it, can you let me know? Thanks! Scott

Re: I need a new host for my pictures ...

I spent a TON of time researching this issue a few years ago, and by far the best choice for me was Zenfolio. Smugmug was okay, but for a variety of reasons (especially ease of customization), I prefer Zenfolio. Videos, custom pages, print ordering, password-protected galleries, etc -- Zenfolio has ...

Re: Diving with the Sea Lions at Hornby Island

Great shots Dan! One of my favorite dives of all time was at Sea Lion Rock in Neah Bay -- we had about 20-30 play with us for the entire dive. I'm hoping to hit Hornsby Island later this year to replicate the experience :)

Re: Photo Class at Alki Cove with Scott Lundy

Nice work Dusty -- almost every image I post gets the digital treatment to improve contrast and remove backscatter. My favorite program by a mile for this is Adobe Lightroom -- it not only edits individual images as well or better than Photoshop, but it also organizes your photos and allows them to ...

aww shucks -- thanks Lynne! I really appreciated having such an enthusiastic and attentive group this time around -- it makes my job a lot easier (and more fun!). I have absolutely no doubt that you'll be giving Peter a run for his money soon enough at the rate you're improving :)

Thanks for the kind words Keith -- it was my pleasure having you in class, and I look forward to our lighting class together in a few weeks. Well it's been a good run NWDC, and all the gifts so far have been super cool, but I think I win :partydance: You see, Scoobie Doo, AKA Jesse the squid whisperer, provided my newborn son Jacob with the coolest gift ever -- the adoption of his very own great white shark! How many 1 month olds do you ...

Re: Ultraviolet Night Diving

Richard there are 1-2W 445nm diodes now available -- check this forum for more details:

http://laserpointerforums.com/f64/

This isn't quite 450-500nm, but there *should* be enough spectral overlap for most things you'd be considering (like visualizing fluorescein perhaps? :))

Re: Nikonos IV-A, is it worth anything?

Lauri, Depending on its condition, you could get a little bit on ebay for it (usually 100-200 with strobe if it's in good condition). which strobe do you have? You can buy an Ikelite optical trigger and run it in slave mode perhaps.... Then again, if you ahve some patience and a few rolls of film, t...

There is a potential sighting of a great white several decades ago -- no photos, but the guy who reported it was apparently rather credible...

Salmon shark sightings are SUPER rare AFAIK, and I've never heard of a thresher sighting (or a sevengill)

Re: Alki Junkpile 11/11

Great shots! there were 4 juvenile wolf eels along the line when we were there last month -- it was absolutely stellar (though none came out to play). The shaggys in the shallows are really interesting to me -- when we saw them they were bright orange! I've seen the muted gray tones quite regularly,...
