Re: overfilling steel tanks

YES! AND you don't dump any gas from the scuab tank AND you don't need anything O2 cleaned (except the supply bottle reg).

With my rix I have done up to 40% to 3000psi. Pumping 32% - 36% gave me no heartburn. Pumping 18/45 is the highest He % I wanted to go.

CBing is so awsome!

Re: overfilling steel tanks

Nope, worse. They are diving 80's! 80 minute dives are not good engough for them. They need to push it out to 90+. Water temp is now 84 degrees.
What the hell are you still PPing for? :smt064 I fill my 15 year old HP PST's to 4K every time. (I need the extra gas be...

From (less than) none to 12min on the first dive and 17 on the second is the difference from Nominal to +5. Makes me think its all voodoo and luck.
With +2 you get less than a 3 min saftey stop. +1 and nominal, no deco. I don't understand why someone would use +3. Why not +4...

Is a rebreather the solution? IUnfortunatly Jeff, you are falling into the same trap that Dick has fallen into. Your basing your opinion on what you read on this forum and have made wrongful conclusions based upon your assumptions. What? I made no judgments about you. That is my advice for anyone c...

Re: Rebreathers.....

Is a rebreather the solution? You asked for opinions and got them. Many people feel that OC is safer than RB's. We are not telling you that you do not have a choice or that we won’t let you do it. We are telling you it is probably more dangerous and think you shouldn’t do it and if you do you may g...

Re: Rebreathers.....

Let’s look at RB and OC differently. Let’s just say RB’s came out first and everyone who dove used one. The safety record for RB’s is the same as it is now. Then came OC diving and in a short time had a “much” better safety record and was much easier. I think at this point people would switch to OC ...

Re: Rebreathers.....

My 2 cents.

You shouldn’t be getting a rebreather because you don’t want to haul extra tanks on the boat.

Rebreathers are far more dangerous than OC. If you can reasonably do it on OC then you don’t use a RB.

And Laura’s last post was right on.

Re: Ling Cod slot limits - how's that working out for ya?

Nobody has brought up the point that sometimes you cannot see the whole fish before shooting. About half of the fish I would shoot were in the rocks or facing me head on. And how on earth are we supposed to practice? Maybe, just maybe, if ling was open all year round you could get good at estimating...

Re: pumping air $$

What is getting loose? Nothing should be loose. When valves are worn or dirty nothing bad happens. I need to replace the orings on my third stage. One just blew so the head is hissing. This happens every couple hundred hours. It's a PITA because my 3rd stage head is an old style and it's almos...

Re: pumping air $$

Looks great. Just keep it lubed (Tierods and thrustplate) and have extra belts around. These things eat belts if you only use one. (some have dual belts) Mine has pumped at just over 3CFM for a few years now. It's either the second stage valves or the third. I am not worried about it. Still pumps to...

Re: Neah Bay May 14-16

Just a suggestion, don't overload the boats. Big swell, chop, and wind can turn a good time into bad. Better to have a bit of buffer room with the weight and space. 6 divers and 12 tanks is a lot. Plus, don't forget the couple hundred pounds of fish and scallops you will get! :burntchef:

Re: Adventures in Spot Prawning

I miss shrimping. Spiny lobster isn’t as good but at least its open all year. When I started shrimping the season was open for 6 months with a 10 pound limit. Then about 10 years ago they found they totally miss-managed the fishery and limited the season to 6 days. Now it sounds like you get 2 to 3 ...

Re: Best Airline Miles Cards?

Please see what consumer reports says about debit cards vs credit cards.

Debit cards don’t give you the protection CC do. With Debit cards you have to fight to get your money back if there is a problem.

What CC gives you 3% on ALL purchases???!!!! I thought 2% was great.

Re: Best Airline Miles Cards?

IMO Airline mile CC are a scam. My sister has an Alaska Air card and just tried to use it for a trip in July. She had to use something like 50K miles for a ticket because the 20K tickets are all spoken for. Most of the air mile cards have a yearly fee. That’s insane. Get a card with no fee and at LE...

I dove last night at a place called Shacks or La Cuevas. This is on the Atlantic side of the island. Vis was 50+ with some surge. Yay, we saw a huge manatee. The water was 81 degrees. We went the whole dive without seeing a lionfish until the very end. We saw one. :angryfire:

Re: Electric Suit Heater Recommendation

Lithium batteries will have a low voltage disconnect to protect the battery but that is near 100% DOD. IMO with Lithium batteries they will go bad because of time not # of cycles (unless you dive every day) Count on Lithium packs to last 2 – 3 years used or not. If your talking LifePo4 they could la...

TTN Summer of 2003 we saw "a lot" of sixgills. Rumor was a grey that was struck by a ship and was purposefully sunk nearby. If it wasnt the grey bringing in the sixgills maybe it was the salmon.

Funny you should mention Pez De Leon. I just attended a workshop hosted by Reef.org about lion fish. They are incredible fish. 2 years ago we didn’t see any here in PR. Now we see a dozen or two every dive. They are not big enough to eat yet but they soon will be. I don't have the plastic nets and p...

50W of electric heat works great, oh so comfy.

But now I am use to 82 degree water so when I come to visit I use the Thermarest one time use heaters and they work great. And I even use them with Nitrox 32. YMMV and you may get horribly burned
