I think I saw you on TV (Rugged Justice) last night at Redondo! Just a quick glimpse in the background as they were checking out the Tribal fisherman's catch. Interesting show.

I am looking for suggestions on where to go for a weeks vacation in March. 10 years ago I went to Akumal for Cave 1. I am not looking to do to much diving. Maybe a couple of nice guided caverns (as it’s been 10 years since I have done a cave dive). I think I would like to see Chichen-itza. I would l...

Re: How common is deep air? NHZ
In Seattle I would use He on most dives because it was so cheap for me to do so. About 110 feet was the max I would do on Nitrox or Air and that was pushing it. In PR, Warm, Clear, bright, Scootering, we would regularly go to 140 – 150 on air because He is just so expensive there. The warmth, clear,...

I have seen them at Edmonds also over the years. I have been told its part of a religious thing around the new year to release a shelfish. I have never seen a small one that implied they were breading.

Frankenstein/Halcyon 24W HID light with no bulb or batter
This is a Halcyon 24W HID ballast and goodman reflector with the long shroud. It’s connected to a homemade canister that fits a 10 D cell or smaller battery pack. It uses a magnetic switch. It screws shut and is a little difficult to open and close. This setup would need a new battery and bulb. I us...

Re: WTB Ditchachable Weight Pockets for BP/W
I have two models of Halycon weight pockets I'll sell cheap. One model holds I think about 10 pounds in each one and the other model holds 15#'s. I'll sell both sets for $25 total but you pay shipping. Shipping will probably be about $15 or $20 bucks.

Never come to Puerto Rico. They excel at animal cruelty here. My wife cries every time we leave the house. It’s the number one reason we are leaving. It’s unbelievably sad.

Re: How much rust is expected or allowable in a steel cylind
Thanks but I probably I have those. The rust I am talking about is around the tank boot. It bubbles up and flakes off. It comes off when you scrape it and it's only a few thousandths thick but every time you clean the surface to bare metal it rusts up again. Spraying with CRC just comes off in a few...

Re: How much rust is expected or allowable in a steel cylind
Light surface rust is fine. Even some fine dust/flakes are fine. If the rust makes a small bump/knob in the tank then the inspector needs to poke at it. If the inspector can’t determine that metal under it is fine then it needs to whipped or tumbled. I took the PSI class and started doing a lot of v...

Put them in the freezer! Just make sure you thaw them out before trying to strech them. NO SEAL SAVER!

I just submitted my comments and my ID was #321. Does that mean there have been only 321 comments? That's three times the number of comments they had nine days ago when the meeting was held ... so while it is a small number compared to the number of signatures on the petitions, it means more people...

LowDrag, If you dive in Puget Sound then your comments are relevent. I live in Puerto Rico but I come back to dive Puget Sound every year. Traveling divers comments may even hold more weight.

Re: Hot, Humid, and High CO2
Wow, with that number of bats in the cave it really adds significant amounts of co2 plus you are also talking significant levels of methane and ammonia. Add to that the high temp and humidity which restricts the bodies ability to off gas and that sounds like a recipe for disaster. One thing to keep...

Re: Hot, Humid, and High CO2
Thanks for the replies. We can’t ventilate the cave. Its big and its filled with 700,000 bats! It’s named Cueva Cucaracha for a reason! It is extreme and just being in the hot room is taxing enough. Fortunately its only about 500’ long to get down into the river system where its only 80 degrees. Tha...

Hot, Humid, and High CO2
I have a question for the medical types. It’s not really diving related but has to do CO2. Normal guidelines range from 5000ppm to over 10,000ppm as being “ok” with minimal symptoms. I take these guidelines to mean someone working in a normal environment with comfortable temperatures and humidity le...

We hear humbacks on most dives in February here in PR but diving in St Croix is much nicer! The reefs from shore here in NW PR are mostly dead but the whales are realy a treat.

Re: Scallops?
I used to get the big rock scallops out at Neah Bay. They were great. However, as I understand it they can not predict/test for PSP paralytic shellfish poisoning in Scallops in the areas we harvest them from(Neah, San Juans). They would need to sample the area very frequently and do tests in the lab...

Re: Air Sampling pump
I sampled only O2 at the input then He and O2 at the output. There was about a 5 minute lag. No big deal. You get the feel for it. I would also shut down the He 5 minutes before shutting the compressor off. Pump 21/38 and because of startup and shutdown your tanks will be 21/35 with no wasted He. Li...

Re: Outrageous Deal on Camera and Housing
My wife use to have a NiconosV with strobes. Is this camera on par with something like that? I know little about camera systems. Does she need a strobe with this setup? Is this a really good deal? What did this setup cost when it first came out? Thanks!

I saw recyclers willing to pay up to $15 a pound. I bet with some effort you could find it for less than $20. It doesnt even need to be pure. I got two small solid blocks at the time. It realy saved on space in the weight pouches.

Re: Buoyancy of lead
I bought Tungstin blocks for my wife to use as weights. They worked great and were very small. She is small so she didnt have much room in her weight pouches. They were not $80 a pound. I think I paid $150 or something for 20#'s or so. I sold it 5 years ago when I moved.

I just bought one of these for $35 including shipping. It uses an XML T6, only one bin lower than U2. I'll report back on how well it works. It says 1400Lm but as with all lumen claims I am sure it is less. http://www.ebay.com/itm/CREE-XML-XM-L-T6-LED-1400Lm-Diving-Flashlight-Torch-Waterproof-100m-S...

Re: Ultraviolet Night Diving
Since many of us still use supper bright 21W HID’s can we just put a filter on the HID? Would we then still need filter on our masks? Or is the output of the 21W HID and filter not going to be very good? Do you have filters for the Halcyon style HID lights?
