Re: Question for the rebreather divers

I wasn't thinking from a safety perspective as much as just a time perspective. Inexperienced divers blow through air faster, leading to the aforementioned shorter/shallower dives. Although with a rebreather, it might actually be more dangerous for the new diver, since their first reaction on OOA is...

Question for the rebreather divers

Do you find that having a rebreather tends to limit (on the shallow/short end) the sorts of dives you do and the people you dive with? Since it's a big time investment to prep and clean the rebreather, does that make you hesitant to blow it on a short, shallow dive? And by extension, does it make yo...

Puget Salad

Is when you come up from a dive covered in sea lettuce, eelgrass, and whatever else the tide brought in, missing only dressing.

There, now it's googleable.

Re: Advice on redundant computer

This seems to be a relevant ScubaBoard thread about the Suunto: http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/computers-gauges-watches-analyzers/441733-suunto-vector-dive-watch.html Why do you want redundancy? The best computer for you depends on what you want to do with it. Do you want an upgrade, or a computer...

Re: My AOW "Critter ID" dive

The only critter I occasionally stop looking at, or for, is the coonstripe shrimp, because they're so ubiquitous. I have to remind myself to look for them sometimes. About soles: I've mostly seen english soles at Cove 2. The way I differentiate between english and rock soles, is that the english sol...

Tom Nic already found, and posted about an almost identical bottle, but I found this guy at Alki Junkyard last night: https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3879/14524825691_4754bd90a5_b.jpg The interesting thing is that I guess the bottler in Fresno and the one in Seattle were both using the same bottle de...

Reading about the coelacanth was one of the first moments when I really started to become fascinated with the sea. This is really sad.

I saw one in 2012 at Saltwater State Park on a surface swim, back when I still had a snorkel.

Man, I miss that snorkel.

Re: Changes in abundance with the pycnopodia gone

I'm noticing a bunch more opalescent nudibranchs. I see a lot of red gilled nudis and other types that look lile red gilled, but actual opalescents don't seem to be that common.

Nudibranchs probably have their own unrelated boom and bust cycles, but there ya go.

You also got a shot of a young yelloweye rockfish around 1:00 of the first video! That's really cool!

I saw a few decent-sized sunflower stars at Alki Junkyard tonight. A few spiny red stars, one leather star, a small rose star, and a few stimpson's too.

Longspine Combfish at cove 2/1?

I saw something (well two things) that looked like a longspine combfish somewhere between the I Beams and the Monolith tonight. It was at about 85-ish feet, the markings looked a lot like this photo: http://www.boydski.com/diving/photos/Fish/longspinecombfish69.htm But it's dorsal fin was down, so I...

Yup, cornetfish. I got really close to one in Maui a few years ago: https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8206/8242625417_9513a57b79_z_d.jpg https://www.flickr.com/photos/fnerg/8242625417/in/photostream/ https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8488/8242627067_0f806abb5f_z_d.jpg https://www.flickr.com/photos/fnerg/8...
