Re: Sea Pens. Millions of 'em!

:calvin: Wow. ... Hey Buddy where did you get in at.. the boat ramp Yo. Walked in at the boat ramp. Scootered to the west. It's a public boat ramp in a private neighborhood. There's a wide gravel area about 100' up the street where you can park and gear up (at least, nobody complained while we were...

Sea Pens. Millions of 'em!

Went for an exploration dive off the Diamond Point boat ramp the other day, heading west. After a bit we found The Sea Pens. A bazillion of them! Really cool to see.

How do octopuses know what color to change to?

I thought this was fun. Link to comic on The Nib. The argument in the comic is that mostly-colorblind octopuses know what camouflage color to use based on light polarity. For myself, as an outspoken blowhard somewhere on the ignorant end of the Dunning-Kruger curve, I of course have a different opin...

Re: Port Townsend area divers

Is this all shore diving? DPVs? Or boats? All shore diving, so far. Some may be in support of the PT jetty replacement, others are just creative things I wanna do (e.g., cleanup dives) and figured I'd see if others want to help. ---- If you want to do a boat dive or DPV excursion that would be grea...

Port Townsend area divers

Hi All! I'm helping organize a few diving events in Port Townsend this summer, and I'm putting together a list of local divers -- or ones that don't mind driving here -- for an email list of possible participants. No obligation, of course. If you want to be on the distribution list, please PM me you...

Si Tech Glove Lock QCP vs. BARE Lock-Rings

I have Si Tech QCP dry glove lock rings on my drysuit. Recently I found a link to the BARE Lock-Ring Quick Neck system, and I'm wondering what the difference is? The Bare web page is pretty thin on details; anybody familiar with it? The price is much lower. glenn Si-Tech-Glove-Lock-QCP1.jpg Bare-Rin...

I have one of those too and will give it try, thanks.

Replacing Wrist Seals

Hey all, my trilam drysuit is about ready for some new latex wrist seals and I thought I'd have a go at doing it myself. Do you have some pointers, or instructions that work for you? Or refer me to a web site or video. What I especially want to know is how you go about removing the old seals (heat g...

Hm.

In other words, you need to fill it to the full+ rating, 2650 psi, to achieve the 85 cu ft.

Jellyfish Bloom

We did a dive this morning at Ft. Worden, and inside the calm Marine Science Dock area there were thousands, millions of small jellyfish in the top ~4ft. Everything from pea and thimble sized medusae up to big ctenophore walnuts with iridescent cilia, maybe some siphonophores or salps mixed in too. ...

Re: Seeking Advice on first BCD Purchase and Insights on Sidemount Diving in PNW

Regarding local popularity... Lots of us know about sidemount but few use it here; I think there's still a lot of inertia with back-mounted doubles. I'd like to practice sidemount 'just because', if I could find an instructor to help me set up the configuration. But would probably not use it locally...

There is a report here from less than two weeks ago: https://pnwdiving.com/view?divesite=Lake%20Crescent Well yuck. Probably all the runoff making things cloudy. I just heard a report that Lake Tahoe has 'overturned' due to cold weather, bringing very clear water to the surface. It hasn't been that...

Yup! That's the dive . Scary, wonderful, and often a challenge. I liked the video of that area at the end of the dive by the supports, during the deco. Fishies! I actually didn't have any compass problems because I got out from under the bridge and away from the structures before taking the return h...
