Re: Looking for someone with plenty of experience for 9-29-1
Right now I have that day off and would be willing to show you around a couple of dive sites here. My work schedule could change so can't fully commit yet. But I can let you know sometime this week.

Re: Hello
Just checked the REEF database going back to 1993. No sightings of PSL's reported in Hood Canal from then until now.

Re: Hello
I have never seen a Lumpsucker in Hood Canal or heard of one there. The best sites for those are the south Sound-Redondo, Three Tree, Titlow, Les D. Doesn't mean you won't find one there though. Sund Rock is a fantastic sites with many critters to see so you won't be disappointed even if you don't s...

Go to Three Tree if you get to dive tomorrow. We saw more than 50 PSL's on 2 dives today. They are really bitty but look on the brown kelp pieces and you will see bunches of them.

Re: Viz Reports Thread
Three Tree is protected and the has an eddy thing going on. However, it's one of the few spots I've dove that I called the dive because of bad viz. Only happened once but it was the worst viz I've ever experienced.

Re: Costa Rica 2014
We went to the same area last March and the water temps were similar and a 5mm was definitely not enough. But we were doing 4 or 5 dives a day. All the guys ended up with a 2 or 3 mm on top of their 5 mm. I added the 1mm wetsuit undergarment I had brought along but I was COLD on every dive after the...

Re: Costa Rica Dives / Recommendations
We had a really good experience with Deep Blue Diving in Playa del Cocos. Very safety conscious, fun, and accommodated our desire to do a lot more diving than their usual 2 dives a day. They took us out for 4 or 5 dives each day and gave us a "hard core diver" price which was reasonable. T...

Re: New diver(s) in Beaverton
Why not just take a drysuit class? That way you'll have a chance to do a couple of dives with an instructor and try out at least one type of drysuit. I teach the PADI drysuit class but I'm laid up with a broken leg right now. But I'm sure you will have no trouble finding someone to teach you. The co...

Re: New diver(s) in Beaverton
Welcome to the board! There is a large contingent of Oregon divers here so you won't have any trouble finding people to dive with and /or carpool with whether you want to do weekday or weekend dives. I'm sure you'll get lots of advice but the main thing is to not rush into big purchases. You'll find...

Re: Sea star die-off
Several people have mentioned the crabs and observing more dead ones than usual so it would be a good idea for everyone to start taking note. I've been looking at California Sea Cucumbers a lot because they are often a good indicator but I haven't seen any off looking ones yet. I'm out of the water ...

Re: Costa Rica - Late February
We were there in March last year. We were told the water temps would be in the mid to high 70's so brought appropriate exposure protection. But the temps were much colder-in the low to mid 60's. By the end of the week we were all piling on exposure suits on top of exposure suits. We were told this w...

Re: Upside down crab dribbling
So, say you are walking down the street one day and KIng Kong shows up, picks you up and starts dribbling you in the air 10 or 12 feet for awhile, then gently puts you down, and continues on his merry way. Other than the mess you'd have to clean up in your drawers, you don't think that might have a ...

Re: Beach Clean up (above and below)
You can also do what I do and encourage others to do the same. Take a goody bag on all your dives and pick up at least 2 pieces of trash on every dive. I've been doing this for a long while now and several of my dive buddies now do the same thing. Like you said, we can each do a little bit. If enoug...

Saw about 5 healthy Sunflower Stars at Redondo today. Saw several healthy appearing ochre stars on the pilings. But also saw a lot of goo and several dead or dying Sunflower, Stimpson's, and Spiny Pink Stars.

Re: Fin/foot problem(s)
All of us on my first trip to Bonaire had this same problem and spent a lot of post dive time putting on neosporin and bandaids. But on the second trip I got smart and brought along some of those thin neoprene socks to wear under my boots and no problem! The others on the second trip were having iss...
