Definitely go with Si-Tech. They dump faster and they don't leak.

Re: Divinghe PBM Mariner - Anyone Done This Dive
CapnJack, this thread is in dive planning, and i happen to be going on this dive (assuming phil lets me on his boat! ). So i dont think there is anything wrong with trying to have a hand in planning it, especially since i want to get experience planning dives to sites i have not been to. I d...

Re: Divinghe PBM Mariner - Anyone Done This Dive
I was thinking it might be a good idea to drop a line down in the general location, then run a reel out in an expanding spiral until the plane is found. Then tie it off on something at the plane Dropping a line in the general location is good, as is a search, if needed (talk to DSteding about that ...

Re: 1st and reg for a sling bottle...
mingas for 100ft recreational dive is 40cft. :) Maybe with your consumption. ;) But not for 1 diver... With an assumed RMV of 1.0 it's 40. Not to say you couldn't blow off some stops and do it on 30, but with a deep stop at 50 and 1 minute ups it's 40cf. Who the H was your instructor?!

+100camerone wrote: Ditto. A reg is a reg is a reg in my dive locker, and to color code things is just asking for an accident. Proper reg switching has to do with how you actually make the switch (procedure of turning on/off bottles, breathing, etc) and not with visual identification of one color or another.

Re: 1st and reg for a sling bottle...
Most of my 2nd stages are black, but I have a couple of yellows that I use on deco and/or stage bottles. I don't color code my regs or hoses though, so when setting up my gear I just use whatever reg is available at the time, regardless of color. On one dive it may be my O2 reg, the next dive a bot...

Lol. You're getting into slippery territory, here. It should be whatever color you like. Especially if you like black. Yeah, I agree with Josh. Depends on how you want to use it, or if color even matters. Most of my 2nd stages are black, but I have a couple of yellows that I use on deco and/or stag...

Re: 1st and reg for a sling bottle...
Regs have a tendency to want to free flow when scootering. I've seen it happen more than once, and it can be very tough to hear. Even if you notice it relatively quickly, by the time you let off the trigger and shut it down, you've lost a good chunk of your 19 or 30 cuft. A big reason I leave my de...

Re: 1st and reg for a sling bottle...
Jeff, take Richard's advice (I like camerone's too) and get a flood-tolerant reg. Not all are, and it's a high risk event for a slung bottle. Also, button pressure gauges perform poorly. Get a real SPG on a 6 in. hose. Check any of the many how-tos on stage rigging to see how to loop it back and ti...

Re: Battling Computers
And what is the rule for repetitive diving? I am usually nowhere near these limits, but I should definitely know this stuff...ugh. Using 32%, considered clean after 1 hour SI, if you stay within the MDL limits and do the proper ascent. If <1 hour SI, double the shallow stops. For repetitive dives o...

Re: Battling Computers
Also your average depth + length of dive should be less than 120. Think that's just for Nitrox though. Anyone know what it would be for air? That's just one way to come up with a no deco limit for air . 32% is -20% EAD and 36% is -25% EAD. What type of ascent you do afterwards is the "min deco...

Re: Don't Mind Me.....
I don't understand the point of placing "stuff" as a habitat. Diving allows us, a small, very privileged group, to explore parts of our planet totally unlike the part of our planet we reside and function in. Why the desire to bring our junk to a completely different world, where it's total...

Re: Battling Computers
This same thing happened with Jeanna and I 10 years or so ago on a couple of trips to Maui. I had an Oceanic Versa Pro and she had a Vyper. We were doing some fairly aggressive 3 tank profiles, and my Versa Pro allowed us to do a slow ascent w/ some deeper stops ("allowed" meaning it didn'...

Maybe I am jumping the gun and putting the cart before the horse. I have a very limited knowledge in the technical word right now. But with my dive master behind me I am building my kit to take the plunge. I need to find time to get out and dive with different people and styles of diving. To build ...

+1 on getting measured in street clothes.
If at all possible, I'd recommend going with a stock suit over custom.

The loop is actually much easier, imo. Much easier to get purchase on the loop than trying to grab a bead with drygloves, especially if the the wraps are tight.spatman wrote:Brian, do people really try to grab a loop before it gets wound up un the reel. I like having a novice ball on my primary reel. I actually use a big bead. But I am not using it to shoot bags or lay new line in a cave (its only 400ft anyway). My exploration reel has no bead. +1 on the novice ball on primary (non-exploration) reel, especially with dry gloves. You dont like fiddl...
