Pretty cool, Jake. I took my converted backup with me last week to try it out. When I went to try it out I noticed it was dimly lit when the switch was off. It turned on fine but would just go dim instead of turning completely off. I thought "maybe if I unscrew the bezel a half turn or so it'll...

I was at Zees Reef on Monday and saw one on the swim out to the wall that was motionless on the silty bottom. Although motionless, it was awake and alert. I tried not to crowd it's space, but I was close enough that it got up and moved away slowly.

Here's a little video from our dive on the Maury Island barges. This dive was Tuesday during the big storm. You could see the boat wreck, barges, and most of the dolphins from just about anywhere. -Ben <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="htt...

And we can purchase this from....? :prayer: Bob Thiry admin@comdive.com He'll have you take some measurements on your valve port (the hole in your suit). Viking suit ports have a groove in the rubber around the port and the bottom of the valve has a ridge that sits in this groove. Port size and gro...

The actual valve inside the deflator eventually looses it's softness and shape causing it to not lay flat against the seat. Most can be rebuilt. While we're talking exhaust valves, I just got a new one that I absolutely love. It looks like a typical SiTec low-profile valve, but internally it has two...

OK, here's a compilation of some dogfish I caught with the point-n-shoot. I added a slow-motion instant replay of the face-slap. =D> I hate how this looks after the youtube post-processing but it's the best I can do. For the most part these shots were at 60-70ft in ambient light. The first subject i...

I was on the water Tuesday. Tsunamis is right! Hold on with both hands and keep your drysuit zipped up! :supz: What a blast. The AM rocked (both literally and figuratively).

Ben, That lighthead is SWEET! Is it all PVC? I'd think you'd have heat issues? Let us know how the test of the HID goes! Jake Hi Jake, I used PVC to make the bezel because it's so easy to turn in a lathe, but the rest of the lighthead is actually steel. I was in a hurry to get a light ready for my ...

Oct 1-2 South Sound report, or how I died and went to heaven

I'm back at work today and just taking a second on my lunch break to start this thread. A full detailed report with pics and video will trickle in over the next two days or so. Synopsis: Two days with Rick Meyers (Bandito) in the South Sound. My hope was for decent visibility and my first GPO. Grand...

After a year of puttering around I finished a hid lighthead today. This uses the trailtech 35w hid, which is actually 30w to the bulb (5w consumed by the ballast). It got a 3 hour burn test today at 10ft. It gets dunked for real on Monday. I hope it stays dry. I've done 3 halogen lightheads and they...

I can just imagine the customer comments:

They're even more difficult to get off your gear. They cling tenaciously, especially to neoprene! I've even heard of them living through a gear rinse only to come back to life the next time the gear was exposed to seawater. I've never seen one of those, but gearing up for a freshwater dive here in ...

Okay, if you are adventurous, here is my 30-second HOW-TO. This is my method, and your mileage may vary... 1. Find out from your suit vendor which adhesive and solvent to use with your particular suit. Different suit materials require different glue/solvent. 2. Find a bottle, can, or other cylindric...

If you think that more than a week to do a 2-4 hour job is "normal" then you're obviously not involved in customer service. A business can't afford to have idle resources. If it's work like cutting hair or cleaning teeth they don't have to have many customers in the queue because there is...

Followup: I misquoted the price. I checked and my last order was $32 for wrist seals. I didn't want to mislead anyone.

Regarding a HOW-TO, the book "Drysuit Diving" (paperback) has a good section on maintenance including detailed instructions for seal replacement.

You could learn to do it yourself. It's pretty easy. After you've done it a couple of times it's REALLY easy. I get my seals for about $25 per pair. It takes less than an hour to do the job (right). I know that sometimes it's nice to 'drop it off and let someone else worry about it', but in the time...
