Re: San Juans 4/6/2014

I think the first site was called "Horny Toad Wall" or the like. :) It was only so-so with a fairly murky 10 foot vis. Breakfast rock was awesome as usual and better than 20 foot vis. Tons of anemones, big and pregnant to bursting rock fish, and lots of soft corals. The weather and sunligh...

San Juans 4/6/2014

I broke a two month dry spell with a wonderful trip up to the Islands with Bandito Charters. Great weather and a good group of divers. MPenders and Scubie from NWDC were along for the ride! I did a super-macro special with lots of nudibrach and candy strip action for the most part. Here are a few hi...

Cylinders 2 LP95's + 2 HP 80's

I have some cylinders gathering dust in my garage and it's time to clean house. All Steel Cylinders - 2 LP95's + 2 HP 80's All are out of hydro, but fully pressurized and have been stored in a dry area for the last 5 years. The HP80 are excellent for shorter divers. My wife loved these for their com...

We squeaked in a fun 100 minute dive before the big blow kicked up. It was great to meet KneeDeep for the first time. I would love to dive on Thursday. I'll try to avoid getting creamed by traffic this time and carpool like a sane person.

Re: Dry Gloves

You probably already know that putting the glove in the DC dry glove ring system is a PITA. Well, it used to be for me, until I made an expanding tool to do it. I use the DC system as well with cheap HomeDepot/Atlas gloves. They are actually very easy to swap out with proper tools. I use a couple o...

Re: Lightroom 4 or 5?

Just go to LR5. Lightroom is pretty useful and one of the better photo management tools out there, but it is notoriously buggy and slow. The latest updates for LR5 are much better than where LR4 left off. If you show RAW, which I highly recommend for UW photography, it's very powerful. You will need...

So great that you got to do Nakwakto! I did it just once years ago and it was a blast. The barnacles are amazing, and it's such an intense experience. You captured some great photos all around!

God's Pocket in Browning Pass Oct 2013

I just returned from another amazing visit to Browning Pass, staying at the excellent God's Pocket resort. Our group of 12 divers had good weather and amazing visibility for the whole trip. The small staff at the resort was top notch (Bill and Annie were away this week) with excellent accommodations...

Re: Thinking about moving to WA - where is the good diving?

Okay, I had to look it up. Seattle (and the PNW) does not get that much more precipitation than Green Bay, and almost none of it is going to be snow. It rarely snows to any significant degree in the low lands, and I know Green Bay is like a Glacier in Winter. Plus Green Bay gets about triple the rai...

Awesome photos! I love the captures of the free swimming Octo. I mostly took Video on this dive, and put together a little "Making Of" clip of YellowEye's amazing little octo. I also got a little action video of the big guy alongside the carousel boat. Making Of: Please pardon the blurry b...

Re: Missing diver off Blakely Rocks

Wow, very sad indeed. I knew Gene and dove with him on a number of dive trips over the last several years. He was a great guy, and an awesome videographer. He will be missed by many. Cheers to those who helped to find him. I can only imagine how shocking and disturbing that must have been. I am glad...

Re: San Juans 7/14

I had the pleasure of joining YellowEye on this weekend's adventures around the San Juan's. Stunningly beautiful weather and great diving conditions. The vis was really good, with Long Island Wall particularly clear with at least 30 feet. The big highlight for me was a very sociable Octo that seemed...

No problems at all with the D800 and Ikelite housing.

I would call Ikelite for advice and send in the housing for adjustment. They have excellent customer service and should be able to take care of the problem.

Re: Ikelite DSLR housing issue

I used to have this issue with my old D70 Ikelite housing and talked to the company. They gave me some good advice that has worked on several housings right up to my current D800 Ikelite. "You can't screw the camera to the base tight enough". Get a good flathead with a big handle and reall...

[Reposting with some more photos...] YellowEye, RedmondDiver, and I all met bright and early at Day Island Wall yesterday for a 6:30am dip. I thought we hit the currents just about perfectly. Next to none as we went out along the wall and a bit of a drifting current back to the beach. Just enough ki...

Re: Diving with the Sea Lions at Hornby Island

I love diving Hornby Island. Great lodge and the sea lions are always a blast. It looks like you had excellent light and visibility! I've been there a couple times with the sea lions and once in summer (when the sea lions are away) and never had such clear water.

Thanks for sharing!

Re: Computers (Part 2)

Once you start doing multi-day dive trips with 3-4 dives per day you are going to need (and want) a computer. A computer can track your actual profiles and give you a far more accurate and reliable measure of your nitrogen exposure than tables can in the real world. I have never seen anyone use tabl...
