Re: here we go, again

And the ideal, of course, would be to have a ferry sunk as a Washington icon dive destination, but like you said - that ain't gonna happen anytime soon. <sigh> Anyway, good input. - Janna :-) Judging by the allegedly decrepit condition of many of the ferries, isn't it only a matter of time before o...

Re: Open Water Day 1, Cove 2

Oh, snorkels.....don't get me started! The uselessness of snorkels for diving is the best-kept secret from new divers. Usually, we all end up buying one (that matches our masks...HA HA HA) at the start of OW class and faithfully keep it dangling from our mask strap throughout OW classes, despite the...

Yep. Somehow this guy :binkybaby: turned into this guy :crybaby: which made Mrs. Brewer into this - :tappingfoot: And somehow the H1N1 got into my computer so I spent all evening doing this :smt024 instead of this :occasion5: . And errant light signals that have me whipping around holding a reg are...

Re: Bonaire

There is never a bad time to go to Bonaire. :) I have zero experience with hurricanes impeding my travel, so no comment there other than now that AA isn't servicing Bonaire via SJ anymore, maybe it's not such an issue? Continental and Delta fly direct from HOU and EWR or ATL, so wouldn't they adjust...

On those rare moments when I stumble into the right trim, and the "frogkick muscles" suddenly do what their supposed to, it's mindblowoing how natural and comfortable everything feels. I saw sooo much cool stuff this weekend and soooo much fun...all I can say is that it's a whole new worl...

Re: Random post

I'm hanging up gear and enjoying a Mac & Jack's from the tap in my garage (I'm in heaven - I have the heavenly brew on tap right here!)... Lucky, lucky you! I missed out on diving today 'cuz I've been sick. So instead I've been (a) reorganizing my dive book library, (b) periodically visiting th...

Re: Tirade, Pt. 2

If you're talking about the place with the Pupusas, it IS awesome, although it's El Salvadoran, not Mexican. Super tasty! Could be, but I don't know about the pupusas.....I was looking for something to drink before an O2 class @ UWS and they sent me over to that place for the Jarritos orange soda. ...

NOTHING beats Taco Town - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWu-gqoMUn0 I dunno.....there is this AWESOME little mexican place next to the Kirkland Underwater Sports store. It is three or four doors down and they have amazing, authentic food. Even though they are located in a strip mall (gasp), their ...

Wow, that is cool. Congrats!

But please don't let my dive buddy read this thread. I've tried my best to convince him that people don't actually have their own compressors at home, that it's just an urban dive legend. If he sees this, my car will surely be relegated to the driveway.

You obviously own the content you created. The new guy only owns the website name/address. Send the new registered owner a cease and desist letter requesting that he immediately stop using your layout/design for his website. Obviously, as the new owner of the domain name, he has full rights to the w...

Re: Vancouver Island - Camping & Diving Suggestions

Hey Tom - Vancouver Island diving sounds fun! It's on my "to do" list..... You should try and find "Cold Water Lloyd" on ScubaBoard (he posts on Bonaire Talk occasionally, too, but under a different name). He lives on Vancouver Island and could give you the scoop, I bet. If you s...

my girlfriend got to try out diving at the Dive Expo Sunday, and LOVED IT! Excellent...another PNW girl diver. And one who appreciates pink fins, too. Even better! I dive with pink fins and keep seeing another pink-finned diver every weekend (she has the same fins as me, actually). Watch out guys.....

Re: Cool things you did and happen during the Expo

As a relative newbie to the PNW dive scene, it was cool to attend a show and run into (a) a lot of my new dive friends, and (2) the industry people I've met since starting to dive here. Last year I lived in the Midwest and went to Our World Underwater, which is a huge show but doesn't give off the s...

I though it was good for those who didn't know. I assume though, if they want to reach a broader audience, they should put it on after American Idol, or some other garbage programming. I think they were preaching to the choir... Exactly! I suspect the vast majority of the tv-viewing public is DVRin...

The DeLoaches stay @ Buddy Dive in September. There's more info on the Buddy Dive website about it. I absolutely LOVE Bonaire and would go there anytime. That being said, Tom is right that September/October are the months most likely to make diving the East Side easiest (if you're interested in divi...

Re: Switching to a backplate/wing

A minor tip that I missed when I set up my harness. If you haven't already threaded the included inner tubing on the harness, cut it in half first to create two thinner rings. Make sure you don't cut through the ring, you want to keep them intact, just end up with two rings of half the thickness.. ...

I didn't lose anything @ Cove 2 (except my pride on occassion, as I fumble and bumble my way in/out of the water....it sucks being a newbie cold-water diver)....I just helped connect the right peeps. I'll leave it to them to disclose what was lost/found. I hate to ruin the suspense for you all........

The other thing I learned: a good, compassionate instructor is worth triple his weight in gold! Absolutely true. I would never be diving if it weren't for my OW instructor back in Wisconsin (Jim Wittlief). There were several times I was reduced to tears during my class (both topside and during dive...

Okay, Joshua, I'm laughing so hard I can hardly type. :) So, yeah, I didn't learn to dive until I had all the trappings of adulthood, too, (plus a kid in college, so add private college tuition to the mix....yikes!). So we're in the same boat, sort of....I guess I'm more on the "3rd career dive...

Re: Things I never new until I went on Scubaboard

These days, the threads on ScubaBoard tend to be dominated by these types ... folks who learned how to dive last year, have amassed almost 50 dives in places like Cozumel and Bonaire ... and have dreams of becoming a DM or instructor in some exotic locale in the world. You can't really blame them ....

I've used mine for about six months, and like it. It is really easy to read underwater, and lets me download the dive info to my laptop.
