Re: Rebreathers.....

My interest in rebreathers has increased after listening to Joe Cocozza's (poddiver) podcast of his rebreather training class with Ritchie Kohler http://poddiver.libsyn.com/index.php?post_id=353641 and reading Fitch, Raising the Dead http://www.amazon.com/Raising-the-Dead-ebook/dp/B002RI9OVY/ref=sr_...

Re: Alternatives to neck seal

I love my neoprene neck seal and would never go back to latex due to the warmth and durability. They are super tight new, but they can be stretched over a tank to loosen.

Re: New Toys

I have been using the Sea & Sea close up lens on my Sony WX1 since January and I have been happy with the results. The only thing that drives me crazy is the focus method on the camera, I found in the detailed pdf manual that there is a setting to focus on the center of the picture but I haven't...

Re: Electric Suit Heater Recommendation

My hands kept getting cold in my dry gloves and the rest of my body was fine. I recently added hand warmers (air activated, good for 8 hours) and now only the tips of my fingers will get cold which is barely noticable. First, I put on wool gloves, next the hand warmerz, then latex gloves (to keep an...

A tool isn't needed with 2 people. I don't remember the exact technique but helped Matt @ NWSD replace mine. A youtube video showing how to do it with the mystery tool is located here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_JWR09pf8A

Re: Precison Propulsion Recommendation for Fins

Wow, what a difference in fins between the Apollo Bio and the Hollis F1's. First dive tried the new Hollis fins and started to feel all of the new control available. I realized that it will take many dives to learn how to get back to baseline and then learn the new skills. I let my buddy use them on...

Re: yet another Sund Rock report ...

It was good seeing Bob yesterday at Sund Rock. The crowd cleared at Sund Rock out after the second dive around 2:30pm, with only 2 other cars in the lot. I enjoyed the south wall dive the best yesterday and had my best viewing of a wolf eel on that dive. I was surprised with the massive school of yo...

Re: Need help resolving an intractable problem, LED or HID

The reason why I chose a LED over HID for a canister light is primarily the durability of the bulb. I have lost count of the number of times between 2 LED Dive Rite canister lights (mine & lizard0924's) where the light head impacted something firm like concrete or a boulder and I had a sinking f...

Re: So, how cold is it... really?

I never dove in Puget Sound wet and never plan to. Matthew from Northwest Sports Divers told me when I was purchasing my dry suit that there is no reason to be cold... I was skeptical at first until I learned with experience that he is completely right! It comes down to getting the right clothes und...

Re: Puget Sound Kayak Diving

I've been diving Kayaks in the sound since about 98. I got tired of being told when and where and how long to dive by operators. If you don't like the conditions, making the choice not to dive is free when kayak diving. Like so many things, freedom comes at a cost. Kayak diving is hard work and som...

Re: Precison Propulsion Recommendation for Fins

I won't bother trying a pair with the reports I learned from yeserday on them, I'll just order and wait for them to arrive. I am pretty good at not creating a nuclear blast zone underwater, I just want to instinctively move like a fish. Lizard0924 already has the silcon spray bottle for her super ti...

Re: Puget Sound Kayak Diving

I just did a day long kayak dive orientation with Kevin Casey. He's an excellent instructor and focused on safety. He loves kayak diving. He supplied the kayaks and equipment (plus transport!). We did exits/entry with and without kit, roll overs, and an extremely modest practice dive. Some stuff I ...

Puget Sound Kayak Diving

Does anyone regularly dive from kayaks in Puget Sound? What are the considerations, what type of kayak is used, where did you get trained, do you get too hot in your dry suit above the water, do you drag your kayak along with you by a line, what are some of your favorite kayak dive sites?

Precison Propulsion Recommendation for Fins

I am thinking of buying my third set of fins, I have a tropical pair and a pair of Apollo bio fins. I love my bio fins, but I want to become an expert at propulsion underwater with using my fins alone to go in any direction and backwards without stirring up silt or sediment. I have heard it is possi...
