Re: Liquivision Batteries

I've found another source for rechargeable batteries for the Liquivision computers. These are 3.7 Volt unprotected 16340 IMR (lithium Manganese) cells made by AW. These are available from a couple online outlets for $5.50 to $6.50 a piece. I've got one in my Xen and will put another in my Kaon when ...

Re: Warm water diving weighting

When I was in Kauaii, I used my 5.5 lb stainless backplate with another 4 lbs of lead to make sure I could hold my stop. I was wearing a 3/2 full suit and renting an Alu 80. I'm 6'-1" and 200 lbs.

Re: Viz Reports Thread

Vis at Cove 2 tonight was terrible, 3 ft at best, above 30 fsw and inside the 3rd yellow buoy. Deeper and further out it was Ok - maybe 20 ft, but pitch black.

Re: LED vs HID

This subject comes up fairly often. The thing is that both HID and LED have been improving. LEDs have gotten brighter and more efficient, but still don't match the brighter (24 - 35 Watt) HIDs for penetrating the murk. Meanwhile HIDs have gotten more durable, and some are now re-strikable. Li-ion ba...

Re: WTB backplate and single tank wing

I have a Deep Sea Supply stainless backplate with added weight plates - 14 lbs total. I carry another 10 - 14 lbs on a belt depending on undergarments & accessories. I use a DSS 35 lb torus wing for single tank back mount.

Re: Octo/BC combo air supply

Based on your wanting a more streamlined rig, I also suggest simply replacing the long hose on your octo with a shorter 24" - 26" hose and a bungee necklace. You are already using a primary donate system, and will probably like having your backup reg always ready under your chin. Something...

Re: Under the Undergarment?

Depends on how much extra warmth you need from the base layer. I usually go with Nike Dri-Fit Hyperwarm or Under Armour Coldgear. Lightweight merino wool also makes a great base layer.

Re: Narcosis

Cold water narcs are definitely different from warm water. The first I felt noticeably narced was at the man in Mukilteo, using air. Things sounded different, sort of metallic, and I couldn't process the depth display on my depth meter, as it had chosen that dive to exhibit its blinking inverse vide...

Re: Straps anyone?

Another place to check out is Discount Divers Supply on Westlake Ave N. They have plain webbing in 2" and I think 1.5" widths. Plus a bunch of used & surplus gear at less than retail. The crotch straps on my rigs are 2" in a softer material, which seems to work fine.

Re: Unholy odors

I use Simple Green lemon for general gear cleaning. For nasty odors, I use Mirazyme or Sink the Stink. Boots that smell really bad can be soaked in one of the enzyme cleaners (diluted) for an hour, then left to dry out without further rinsing. The enzyme will do the work.

Re: Water refusing to emancipate itself from my ears

+1 on that! Since I started equalizing on the surface and every couple feet of descent, I haven't had any issues. If you're feeling pressure (squeeze) on your ears, it may already be too difficult to equalize. Move your head up a couple feet and try again, gently. There is a phenomenon where if you ...

Re: Sunday 6/2? Seattle to northend?

The marina is well south of EUP. There could still be some impact on parking, but just due to more folks being in the general area.

Tide exchanges are pretty low this weekend.

Re: Tank height adjustment strap

I also tried to come up with a tank height adjustment strap or cord when I first switched to a backplate. I found that my wing got in the way of such a strap. Since then I've just learned to gauge top strap location by eye. I prefer the tank high enough that I can touch the first stage with the back...

Yeah, yeah. :)
I ask because I own a Wilson and have shot a Les Baer. I've also fitted a custom barrel into a Kimber with an Aimpoint sight for shooting 2700 outdoor matches. Hadn't heard of Cabbot prior to this. Their website doesn't give any numbers on accuracy.

Welcome. I have also started sidemount recently. The South Sound has some great places to dive. I live north of Seattle, and don't mind a little travel. I just hit 100 dives, am an SSI MSD and have TDI Advanced Nitrox.

The Bare XCD2 is a fine suit. It is made from highly compressed neoprene and is very durable. I have one as well as the newer XCS2. I have never seen or heard of bubbling or delamination with this suit. On the other hand, the Bare SB trilam suits have had issues and sales of these have been suspende...

Re: WWW Cove 2 Dive - 4/17 @ 4:30 & 6:30pm

I'm in for dives 2 & 3. Maybe dive 1 as well, depending on the weather. I'll be tweaking my sidemount gear for a trip to Port Hardy on Friday. I'm experimenting with attaching a long battery canister to the back weight pouch of my Stealth system. Got a pair of HP 100s that are about 2/3 full of ...
