Hi Boathouse55, welcome to the board!
We have some great diving here in Port Townsend but there's times (like this week) when the tides are too brutal. I'd be happy to go with you to Ediz or Lake Crescent, and my schedule is flexible. Just say the word.

The tides have cancelled some of the ferry runs between PT and Coupeville, so if you're coming from that direction be sure to check the WSDOT schedule.

Re: WDFW GPO update: Seacrest Cove 1,2,3 now included in opt
Just attended the Port Townsend session. Attendance was light, maybe 15 people, mostly with ties to conservation organizations or the marine sciences in some way. Although there were clearly other divers there, I was the only person who self-identified as a local diver. They gave a brief presentatio...

Re: GPO Input needed!
Now ask yourself if you as a diver would appreciate it if sport/spear fishermen demanded we leave popular sites. Point taken. No. But there is a difference... As a recreational diver, I hope to leave a dive site as I found it for others to enjoy. But if someone bags a rarely-seen animal, that means...

Re: Thinking to dive somewhere near Bainbridge this Saturday
Dove Norrander's last Monday and saw another small six-gill shark. Yes, yes. It circled twice and I got a good look at it. Not a dogfish. It was about 2.5 - 3ft long, and in the shallows (!) just east of the reef, in about 25ft of water.

Re: Octopus Hole For sale
If the shoreline side of the property is of little benefit to the property owner and encumbered by both the highway ROW and a history of public access I wonder if it is worth owning at all. Are they paying property takes on it? Could they reduce their tax burden through a transfer to some other ent...

Re: Thinking to dive somewhere near Bainbridge this Saturday
I've been at Norranders a couple times in a moderate exchange. It is annoying, but you can always stay in the lee of the reef. More problematic was being there at low tide... lots of slippery rocks.

Re: Thailand dive vacation
It's been a few years, but I went to Koh Tao, Phuket, Krabi, and the Similans (live-aboard) on one trip. Here's my impressions... The Gulf of Thailand had warm, gin-clear waters. But the same clear waters don't feed a lot of life. Still, the diving was fun. If I wanted to get a Divemaster or Advance...

I want my ashes to serve a useful purpose...
Please mix them with concrete and form them into the shape of a brick. Then throw the brick at anyone who doesn't spread ashes properly.

Re: Silverdale dive
Dunno about Silverdale.
If you can catch Hood Canal at slack tide, Salisbury Park is a decent dive. Also, Seabeck (Misery Point Ramp) is kinda neat... lots of sea whips out at about 80ft towards the canal.
None of these are going to be spectacular, but they can be fun.

Ah, there it is. You choose your magic based on your objectives.Joshua Smith wrote:Bottom line is that the suunto algorithm is the worst possible choice for someone who wants to rack up some recreational deco, do repetitive dives, or do aggressive profiles.

Well I don't get it, then. If you think a piece of equipment is faulty, why use it?

Then that sounds like an equipment issue, or a failure to fully understand and plan for how the equipment works.CaptnJack wrote:The Suunto gets so rediculously conservative on (e.g.) repetitive reverse profile dives that you may run out of gas before you finish its obligation.

There seems to be some debate about what this is . Some people claim it's a Deepstaria enigmatica jelly, while others are speculating that it's a whale placenta. All I know is that I would have to change my underpants if I saw one... Judging by the depth, I don't think I'll see one any time soon. :e...

Re: Got called an idiot for selling my pony!
I told my wife she couldnt have a pony, and she called me an idiot... :) So... redundancy... Hijack in progress... Often I have oodles of extra gas in a single 130 for the shallow-ish dives I'm doing. But I still feel that redundancy is an important consideration. I'm thinking of getting an H-valve...

Dove for 20 years without a pony... Never needed one.
Now I dive with one, but plan on it being a big waste of money because I don't expect to need it now, either.
