Re: Flagpole and Octos with Eggs

Cool pics! The octo dens can definitely be a challenge to light. The time it takes to get those photos is why I suggested ScubaJess to start carrying a heavier nitrox mix when we go visit the octomoms at cove2. Interestingly, I didn't notice eyes yet in the cove2 octo nests. Great lighting on the cl...

Nice one George!

Yeah, it has been a while, hasn't it! In what area did you see them? I heard people had seen them deeper?

Hmm, I'd never heard "Les Davis" and "better viz" in the same sentence before :)

Viz was bad up in the mountains yesterday too -- fog

Hope you had fun!

Re: FREE DUI Drysuit.

I need to meet him next time im in mukilteo Just my opinion is that the "man" is not a really worthy destination to seek out. He's very deep, and a lot of people, even more experienced people get really narked out finding him, and get too mission oriented trying to find him at the cost of...

Re: Question

Josh, definitely build up some years of experience first before going deeper. There's a LOT to learn. And tech diving is very costly -- if you are scraping for cash for basic gear, it probably will be a losing battle to tech dive. But honestly, the best life is at 70' or less. I've done some deep di...

Re: Some kelp greenling questions from recent dives

Good info! Jan, maybe you were right. I thought they were mating due to the coloration and all that twitching and the fact they were so close to the eggs. But I zoomed into a picture and sure enough the eggs have eyes, which presumably you can only see later in gestation. So maybe they were freaking...

Re: 7/25 diving - Redondo Squids + Point Hudson

Hi
I forgot to mention... we saw a sea lion breach at the end of our dive at Redondo. It was pretty cool!
There was also a seal hanging around the squid area.

Yeah, that is where we saw them! Cool! Wondering if they're seen elsewhere in the sound?

Thanks!

Longfin sculpin q

Hi
I was surprised to see longfin sculpin on my last couple of dives at cove 2. I don't recall seeing them south of Keystone or Pt Hudson before. Are they a frequent site at cove2 and south?

They were a bit more drab than you often see in the San Juans.

Thanks!

Some kelp greenling questions from recent dives

1) we recently saw a mating pair of kelp greenling. The male was twitching out as usual. We were watching them when suddenly the female started spitting out eggs into the water column. What is that about? This is assuming I have the genders correct: male black, female yellowish 2) how many times per...

Re: Dive Pictures

Nice pics, ScubaJess! The "cute fish" is a scaly head sculpin Nice painted greenling. It was cool to see the pair mating. I didn't know they mated more than once per year! Question for all: We saw the female painted greenling spit out some eggs into the water column. Any ideas on what that...

Cool pics George!

The crab looks like a pygmy rock crab. Always a cool find, they usually live in giant barnacle casings and are usually very shy!

7/25 diving - Redondo Squids + Point Hudson

Hi ScubaJess and I did some diving today. First, to try to find some squid at Redondo (1 dive). Second, to take advantage of the currents and go try out Point Hudson (2 dives) We had a really tough time finding the squid at Redondo. We never found the "1/4 acre" pile. But we did find some ...

Re: Day Island Vis Lately?

Redondo look bad this morning under 20' (though we only popped down there for a bit), that may be an indicator.

Hudson had fairly poor viz today, but was FULL of critters if that's an option! I'd vote Hudson! :)

Very cool!
Does anybody know if they're still there? I thought they'd only be there a day or two.

Does anyone have landmarks other than blue tarp. May not be able to see that at night.

Thanks!

Octo-mom again

Hi
ScubaJess went and visited octo mom (expectant mom) again the other day.
Here was a shot!
DSC_5282.jpg
ScubaJess got one too!

Other cool sightings on the dive were lots of opalescent nudibranchs, a white tipped nudibranch (camera shy!), and the biggest skeleton shrimp I've ever seen!

Re: Housing for Nikon D3200

Oh, in that case probably the Nikon 3200 will have better button layout even on Ikelite! You're welcome to see how my ike buttons feel with your dry gloves. Probably it will have similar layout to the 3200 would. Buttons on a housing are usually a function of the camera. The Nikon dslr's are usually...
