Re: Feeling Frustrated

Just to add to the rant as I was doing an overhaul on my camera housing I have 2 parts that are stuck. Went to order replacements, well they are "factory only" so now I have to send that out. Getting back into this is going to be costly. Worth it, but was hoping it was going to go a little...

Re: Feeling Frustrated

Thanks. I will be making calls tomorrow. Then just a matter of figuring out how to get them there.

Feeling Frustrated

After having been mostly out of the water for over a year I have been in the process of getting our gear all tuned back up and ready to go. Some of it is in shockingly bad shape. I have several tanks out of hydro so I was stripping them down to take them to a local shop to have done. I have not look...

Re: Staying warm in the parking lot?

While being able to be warm is nice. What is really nice about this set up is I have gear racks inside. This means we clean our gear as doff it. It goes right into its place or hung on a rack. We do end up spending a little more time at the dive site, but we don't have to take it home and deal with ...

Re: Staying warm in the parking lot?

Like most we dive all year also. Coldest it has been when we got to the dive site was 17*, and the nice 42* water felt very good. Trailer with forced air heat and 70 gallons of on demand hot water is always very nice when it is snowing. The hot water is great when you first get out of the water, the...

Re: cave diving in Oregon

It reminded me a lot of the lava tube by Bend that runs under Hwy 97. This seemed cooler though since it ended in water and is not run by a park service. Just a random hole out in middle of a huge field. I wonder how many more of these kind of things are out there that have not been found.

Re: cave diving in Oregon

Like I said, I know it was an older post. People were trying to verify the location so I was just confirming. We were in it yesterday and hiked back to the water. It was pretty cool.

Re: cave diving in Oregon

I know this is an older post, but I was just in this location today. I found this link looking for the video I heard existed. Sadly there is very little info about the system, yet lots of questionable diving. We hiked in and made me wish I had my dive gear. I know we are not cave certified yet, but ...

Re: wet suit poll

After we got our drysuits we still packed our wetsuits when we traveled west to dive incase we had a drysuit failure. When we had the wetsuits and were new it was great fun. Now that I am use to the drysuit and know how much better diving can be you wouldn't catch me in the Sound in my wetsuit. Also...

Re: Ice Diving Instructor in WA state

No reliable safe ice in WA, got to go to Idaho... At one time one of the Portland area instructors was doing a trip over there with instruction annually. Unfortunately I don't remember their name now. Really? We have a few prime locations over here that are used frequently. One of the local shops j...

Re: Big Island Diving - 1/18 through 1/21

I will put in a plug for Billy. Bob hooked us up with him about 2 years ago. Beth and I only had a few dives on our own at the time. I think we had done 4 dives not counting the OW dive, then did a weekend "workshop" with Bob before we went. I think our first dive in HI was #12. Billy was ...

Re: Fin/foot problem(s)

Great to know Bob. I will try that for sure next time.

In the water my feet were sore, but it was easily overcome. Out of the water shoes of an kinda hurt and so did walking. I had bandaids and cream all over my feet to make it tolerable.

Re: Fin/foot problem(s)

All good pointers. As for the "heel" rubbing, it was just a small spot on the medial side and not across the whole back. My fins were initially loose the last time(s) I had used them but tightened them before the trip. Now they feel like the fit properly and are not too loose, but I can fe...

Re: Fin/foot problem(s)

Next time I am in a town with a dive shop I will look at some different neoprene boots. I am also tossing the idea of finding some shoes that are lightweight that would fit in the fin pocket. Just not sure what I would wear for "socks" under them. The GF has soft feet in her Fusion and ins...

Re: Fin/foot problem(s)

The reason I replaced the Oceanic is they were too soft for me. Even on a medium flutter kick they bend 90*. That is a lot of wasted effort. It feels like riding a bike in too high of a gear. Sure the pedaling is easy, but you have to work your ass off to go. With paddle fins I get good control. I g...

Re: Fin/foot problem(s)

Well even with 5mm boots that does not solve rubbing problems. Just like hiking boots that are not broke in will cause rubbing issues. Difference between boots and fins though is I am not sure you can "break in" fins.

Re: Fin/foot problem(s)

Sorry Dusty if I didn't make it clear, but I did have my Deep Sea 5mm boots on with the HOG's.

I had kinda thought about shoes, similar to boots like you would use with a DS. What would you wear under them for socks? Just regular socks? Thin socks of some kind? Special material?

Fin/foot problem(s)

So I just did a few first last week and it was awesome. This also meant I had a few problem. We did a week in Bonaire last week. This was my first trip out of the county. It was my 3rd trip to tropical waters with the prior being Maui and the Big island. It was the most dives I have ever done in a d...

Re: Dry suit versus BC buoyancy question

I only have experience with 2 undergarments but there IS a difference without a doubt. I did not say it before but I dive Bare Trilam ATR. I have no experience in a neoprene suit so I can not compare. My first, and now summer, undergarment is a Bare T-100 Thinsulate. It vents effortlessly and I neve...

Re: Dry suit versus BC buoyancy question

I will throw another one in here now. I use my BC for gross control and my suit for fine control. Usually as I descend I use the BC till I am almost neutral, then make minor adjustments with the suit. Sometimes if it is cold I will run a little more air in my suit. I know when I have too much air i...

Re: Weezle Drysuit Undergarments for Northwest Diving

I will mimic what Tom said. I have the 2 piece set and really like it. They are super fluffy though and do take more weight. Even doing 2 dives in the ~40* temps I am nice and warm. Last year when we did one of our rescue trainings I was in ice water playing "victim" for the SAR and Fire D...

Re: Hints & Tricks for wide angle photography with a Sealife

In my novice experience using a WA is harder, but it will work. I have had the best luck when there is ample ambient light and the strobes are for fill light. Here is a shot from Redondo with a Nikon D70 with a Nikon 10.5mm fisheye, http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v510/nwcid/Other/DSC_0043-2.jpg H...
