Re: Drift Diving Port Townsend

60South and I dove the waterfront again on this past weds., believe or not Glenn came up with another skateboard, LoL!
He wouldn't let me take a pic, saying that twice in a week is just bragging.

On a side note, I guess the in-thing to do in PT is to throw your skateboard off the local dock.

It was a fun dive, first time I've done the waterfront from one end to the other.

Thanks for the dive Glenn!

Aug-5 Mukilteo - Gnarley haze layer at ~20-25'-ish, below that viz opened up to 20' and was probably 30' at 130' deep.

Re: What's up with Dive Logs?

I like using the log to keep track of the dive (good-bad), how I felt during and more importantly, gear changes and what effect they had on the dive. However I usually log a day or two after the dive.
Rarely ask anyone to sign my log these days.

Re: Where would you retire in the USA to live and Dive?

I think Pt Townsend's a pretty laid-back community ... but Chimacum is probably more your taste. To each their own. PT is awesome and yes, quite laid back for the visitor, we love it there, but the extra taxes, fees and politics are not all that great; real glad we bought in the county and stayed o...

Re: Where would you retire in the USA to live and Dive?

Comparing per County property taxes rates in the state vs diving potential, I'd say Port Townsend looks like a good balance. Stay out of the city of Port Townsend, it is a Seattle-esq socialistic nightmare on a smaller scale and will get worse as Seattle does. However, the surrounding communities a...

Definitely awesome to meet the infamous Yelloweye and ScubaJess.... the rest of us were blown away that NWDC celebrities would come join us on a dive. Well, except for 60South, he is the exchange/current guru, so guess he has his own celebritie-ness (is that even a word?) to deal with. DJmcMath is j...

Re: Viz Reports Thread

Sunday - 25th Port Hadlock bay - The Comet Viz was absolutely horrendous, maybe 5'-ish, we swam by it on the downslope side the first time, almost swam by it on the upslope side, luckily caught a glimpse of it... it was then game on for 60South and I, both first time on this wreck. Just like the Ran...

2013 and 2014 I spent about $2500 total on OW/AOW training and on recreational scuba gear, mostly used (and well cared for) from here and on Craigslist. 2015 Spent just under $5K upping the anti with doubles, BW wing, stage bottles, basic tech stuff (again mostly used) and a week at camp Mel. 2016 w...

My dad and Ohopdiver dove the north end of the park, basically the beach out in front of Kinzie Battery back in the '70s when they first started diving together, lots of kelp, big fish and gnarly current are what I remember from their dive.... gnarly current, right Dan?... LOL!

Re: Scooter out to Diamond Knot?

- The current can be wicked on The Knot even in the best of times. You'd need to plan it during the a spectacular neap tide (look at the tides from last weekend for an example) This past weekends tide is what got me asking. The wife and I were up at Salt Creek on Sunday, just enjoying the view. The...

What size wetsuit?

You can get them used very cheap. I think I spent a whopping $75 for my first suit.

I'm up in the PT area also, so always looking to dive.

Scooter out to Diamond Knot?

So who has done it? From Salt creek out to the knot? Details?

Thought I'd read about it before, but couldn't find the report this time around.
