Re: What makes a diver a "good" diver?

I have always thought that there are three explanations for why someone is not great at what they do. This holds true to with every aspect of life (of course, my opinion)… career, relationships, & scuba diving. You are either lacking: 1. Experience 2. Passion (do not care enough) 3. Brains (too ...

Re: Camera flooded at 90 fsw!!

I would have to say: Nice job, quick thinking and well done. :prayer:

This is something new to me for consideration. I have thought about flooding possibilties but, never to send the camera up without me. What if your camera rig is negative? :dontknow:

DM / Instructor Liability Insurance

I am currently considering an offer to work as a DM in Mexico three months out of the year with a diving operation. On the surface it seems like a great way to get out of the soggy vally during the winter months. There are a huge amount of things to consider before jumping into this, I know. But, af...

FS: Seaquest Predator BCD

I have a size large Seaquest Predator BCD for sale. I got this BCD in an equipment purchase but, it is too big for me. I really need to get rid of this one and get another that fits me better. This BCD is in prefect shape with only a couple dozen or so dives on it. It is a very simple jacket design ...

FS: DUI CF200X Drysuit

I have a size large DUI CF200X Drysuit for sale. The suit is in need of zipper and wrist seal replacement. It is currently fitted with a neoprene neck seal. I decided to purchase a new DUI suit because of a deal I got at our local dive shop. This suit still has allot of life left in it for someone w...

For fish you would want a faster shutter speed to stop the action of the moving fish.
Do you have some approximations on speeds you are shooting?

What do most of you consider an acceptable shutter speed for Macro (still object) shots? How about for fish?

Re: Oregon Divers Invade Redondo, Club Dive 3/22

FYI - Stacy and I have changed on the vehicle we are taking. We will be in a Maroon Dodge Ram truck with a blue canopy. It is an obvious mis-match. The soft-top jeep is a bit noisy for the long road trips and I got my clutch fixed!
See y'all there!

Re: Focal Point

I was told that a higher f-stop, 8.0 being the highest my camera goes, gave a better depth of field. Aperture terminology is alway confusing... I did mean a smaller opening and you are correct that it is a higher numbered f-stop. I did take a few shots where my wife held the light on the subject an...

Re: Focal Point

That helps me. I use the sidespill from my light to light up the subject, press the button halfway down to achieve focus, then move the light away before snappig the pic. Seems to work OK with my SD 550.... I did tie-wrap a light (with a homemade defuser) to the housing but, the spot still showed i...

I am very new to the underwater photographer thing. I am shooting a Canon G9 with an Ikelite housing. In order to start slow I am not using a strobe at this point and am staying pretty much with ambient light shots. I have started by just using the program mode and setting the white balance for my w...

It looks like Stacy and I (Matt) are going to join the group. We just returned from Ixtapa Mexico and just can't get enough diving. So, we might as well take the opportunity to meet some folks. We live in Scappoose area North of Portland. We will travel North on 30 and cross over at Longview. It is ...

My wife, a friend, and I made a couple dives on the pinnacle just south of the shellfish station on Saturday. Bill took us out in his new Thunderjet boat (very nice). We entered at the buoy on slack tide. The visibility was amazing (40 - 50 feet). The rock was just loaded with Lings guarding their e...

I visited Cabo San Lucas about 8 - 9 years ago. We did have some good dives there but, I would pick Ixtapa over Cabo in a heartbeat. Also, topside I think there is more to do in Ixtapa. Cabo is fun with lots of night life but there are not allot of other points of interest. My thoughts anyway.
