Re: Advice needed for Weight Training for Scuba

Lamont, I would have no doubt you are right except for my 30 years of diving with big/fat people who were the last ones back on the boat and diving with tiny fit people who often use more air than me. All things being equal, a small fit person will use less air than a large, unfit person, but things...

Re: Advice needed for Weight Training for Scuba

Once again, some of the divers I know that use the least air are fat and out of shape. Not good to be that way but it doesn't have much to do with air usage. Probably if you were going underwater to swim at maximum speed you would use less air by being in perfect condition at a perfect weight, but t...

Re: Keystone night dive

We dove there once at night. We paid a fee which didn't seem unreasonable to have someone there to lock up after us. I forget how we got in touch with the people in charge.

Re: Travel Bag

I agree, but it is just 2 stainless steel screws that came undone. Fixed with a little locktite it will be good. I'm much more worried about seams and zippers and so far they appear to be good......and it weighs 6 pounds and has an extendable handle.

Re: Travel Bag

I got an Edge bag from DRIS and am using it in Mexico right now. Super light weight (6lb) and the zipper seems to be good and the extendable handle seems sturdy. The plastic base block that lets it stand up fell off this evening. Screws came loose, but other than that it is a winner so far for $120 ...

Re: Hollis F2 fins

The reason I was interested in the F2's, other than trying a blade fin, was I heard they were lighter and more buoyant than my Tusa Extremes. That is true. Today I did more or less the same dive with the Tusas. I could pivot around much better and my legs didn't cramp as much even though we did a mu...

Hollis F2 fins

Just did the first dive of our vacation in Mexico. I bought a pair of Hollis F2's to try in place of my Tusa split fins. Did an easy shallow shore dive for an hour plus. It will be hard for me to try them again. They felt like boards. Hard to move. not much propulsion. Cramped my legs. Yuk! I'm sure...

Re: Cell Phone Service at Dive Spots

We live in an area with poor coverage and most people end up with At&T. When we go to dive spots we almost always have coverage. All across the US we almost always have coverage. In Mexico we have coverage. Not talking about cost. Not talking about service. Just the ability to make and receive a...

Hi, I'm from the dry side of Washington and am currently suffering in Mexico below Cancun but if you don't get a taker I'd trade.

Cozumel Dentist

Yesterday morning I was eating a piece of that good toast with all the seeds in it and felt something bad. Split a tooth. My dentist got me in and pulled it for $195. Told me a bridge is going to cost $3000, more or less, and maybe more. We will be in Coz in January and February and wonder if anybod...

No question that I could save the $25 if I owned a boat or a scooter. I'll have to pencil it out.

Re: Faber tanks?

Pretty smart to run things by Northwest Dive Club to see if any red flags come up. Like the 3180 Fabers. With the + rating they are about the same pressure as the 3442 tanks but as Captn Jack says they are terribly heavy things. I did one dive with mine and didn't like the way it rocked around on my...

Re: Drysuit weighting

You will not hear any hissing and the leaks may make only the tiniest bubbles, slowly and very hard to see. It doesn't take much of a hole to give you a wet arm or chest. I'm speaking from personal experience here.

Re: Drysuit weighting

Put plastic drinking cups in the wrist seals and a gallon pitcher in the neck seal, blow it up and spray it with soapy water. Sometimes the inflator valve or exhaust valve are not attached tightly enough. I've found a little silicone grease, not cement, on the surfaces lets them tighten down nicely ...

Way back when Greg Jensen said Atlantic lobsters need a period of cold water to breed. Any comments on the eggs on this one?
