Re: Dive boat sinking near Phuket

Interesting to see that the lifeboat failed to deploy or inflate. The video doesn't show the boat sinking far enough to cause a canister packed life raft to inflate. Once released from a cradle (either manually or by an automatic hydro-static release) typically 50'-100' of line has to be pulled out...

Re: Upcoming Beach Replenishment

They've had quite a fiasco with a similar project in LA during the summer of 2012. The fill was full of litter and there was quite a bit of sedimentation spread from the project. There was quite a bit of discussion in the SoCal forum at DMX , Ken Kurtis's updates are worth reading, this one might be...

Won't that give you shorter arms and legs without hands and feet? I bet you could get a mod to change your name to stumpy if you asked politely.

Re: Neoprene and latex seals.

I'm surprised that Nwbrewer didn't mention that both of us have made our own neoprene neck seals . I think Seattle Fabrics will ship to you, I just stopped by since I was living a mile away at the time. If you are in Seattle both Northwest Outdoor Center and Underwater Sports (the Seattle/Northgate ...

Re: Where to buy a 5mm wetsuit in Seattle?

There are plenty of retailers around offering water-sports equipment that aren't dive shops. Dive suits don't work particularly well for sports on the surface like paddling, surfing, windsurfing, kite boarding, etc. but suits for surface sports frequently can be fine for diving if they fit well (fit...

I really like Cleanscapes. Last week I noticed a slick and got a human on the phone answering on the second ring. I'm pretty sure they will fix their hydraulics too but won't know until Friday.

Re: Making hard cider

How much was the little corny keg? Mine was a Cyber Monday special from Williams Brewing (ships from NorCal) but I think they are still available for $69 at Adventures in Homebrewing (ships from Michigan). Mine is 2.5gal that can fit on a shelf inside our spare fridge and would probably fit into a ...

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/12/14/mezeryge.jpg Between Craig's List and a couple of Black Fri. deals I'm much better equipped now. Re: Making hard cider

Anybody know which gas/welding suppliers in the North End fill owner bottles? I'm sure I'll need a refill eventually. Still looking for advice on this. I've been reading about gas blending here long enough to understand owner bottles vs. exchange bottles. I've got a nice aluminum tank with five yea...

Re: Making hard cider

I just bought a brewing and kegging setup off Craig's List for $120 and sold the big stock pot to a friend for $20. Now I've got a CO2 bottle, a ball lock corney keg, regulator, picnic tap, a 5gal. carboy, and a bunch of other stuff. Guess I can force carbonate now when I don't want to bottle condit...

Re: Anyone deep fry a turkey?

I'd be much more willing to trust Alton Brown's advice than most other sources. He discussed turkey frying on the podcast he dropped last Friday . If your aren't familiar with him he used to host a show called Good Eats that was not your typical food network fare. Whatever you do make sure you don't...

Re: LP hose to compressed air tool adapter -- local retail?

Do you have convenient access to a tap and die set? I've run a 3/8"NC (I think, feel free to correct me) tap trough 1/4"NPT plumbing fittings to connect the coupler from an old infiltrator to other things for moderate/low pressure convenience uses. You'd probably have to stack a few fittin...

Cordell Bank (offshore Northern Cali.)

Not my trip report but a series of blog posts and photos just posted that is too good not to share. Cordell Bank is about twenty miles offshore and slightly North of San Francisco. As one can imagine getting three days of diving out there is unusual, in good weather and with good viz. is even more s...

An Update: All my first batch has been, hopefully, bottled carbonated and is now in our spare fridge waiting for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Re: WTB Ditchachable Weight Pockets for BP/W

Just to add to the diversity of options I'm going to suggest an approach that has worked well for me and many other people. Keep your weight belt but with a modest amount of lead, say 8-12lbs. This is a much more comfortable belt than 20lbs. or more and the remaining weight won't overtax modestly si...

Re: Making hard cider

An Update: My cider has been fermenting for ten days now. I picked up a racking cane, a hydrometer, and related gadgets this afternoon on my way home. I saved a sample of the juice I started with in the fridge and (assuming that there wasn't much fermentation going on at 38 degrees) the original gra...
