Re: Bonaire electrical question

I don't worry about it. It's a question about your risk tolerance. The only electrical problem I experienced in Bonaire was the power going out for a couple of hours in the afternoon. Didn't affect the traffic lights since they don't have any and I didn't need any power underwater. I have heard of s...

Re: Netbook???

I never considered getting a netbook until I heard of the HP Slate. It's a Windows 7 PC in the same form factor as an iPad, and it even does Flash and Office 2010. First I was envious of lizard0924's Kindle, then I preorder the Nook but cancelled it when the iPad was annouced once I heard of the HP ...

Amazing 60 Minutes Segment - The Sharkman

Did anyone else catch the 60 Minutes segment on The Sharman last night? "Anderson Cooper dives unprotected with great white sharks and the South African who has spent more time up close with the ocean's most feared predator than anyone else." This segment drew me completely in and received...

Thanks for putting on the class last night. I now finally "get it" and I figured out what I was missing. This is my third kick at the cat, first was reading - self study, second time was in the SDI Solo Diver class, and third was last night! I have already starting seliing your next class ...

Re: Back from Bonaire

Bonaire is very relaxing for a divers "real" vacation. Your schedule is your own, no need to schedule any boat dives. You are the captain of your pickup truck which you decide when to hit the sites. The only time I saw a $5k airfare to Bonaire was a misrouting using KLM through the Netherl...

Re: Back from Bonaire

More trip report details: I lucked out with finding the instructor of instructors and divemasters in Bonaire to take my SDI Solo Diving class from. He works at Tropical Inn Divers and works through Toucan Divers as well. Chris had 3,700 dives under his belt. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that...

Re: Aluminum vs Steel? Pressure

Simply put, Steel tanks are just magical compared to Aluminum. Due to the buoyancy characteristics of a HP 100 vs. AL 80 you actually need less weight overall for diving. These characteristics are common to all steel tanks. This is important for dry suit divers since you need more lead to sink. You ...

Wow, that is terrible. I fell on the same hill a few feet further from the sidewalk on Friday afternoon during the steady rain. I was one of the lucky ones who only had to worry about washing off mud. I plan on staying clear off that hill whenever it is wet - learning about your misfortune and my ex...

Re: How many dives did you do in 2009?

86 in 2009, most number of dives ever in a year. Much better than the many years when 0 dives were recorded in my dive log. At this time in 2008 I didn't imagine I would have this opportunity to dive anytime I wanted to when I still lived in the midwest. I guess I had the opportunity to dive anytime...

Re: Boat question

I second staying away from Force, lizard0924 had a bad experience with one.

There is a lot of truth to the saying, the happiest day of owning a boat is the day you buy it and the day you sell it. I have had these joyful experiences myself.

Re: Favorite iPhone dive planning application - AyeTides

Thanks for the tip on the Navionics for iphone. I paid $268 last year for the Navionics area 13 platinum chart. The iphone is far cheaper and easier to use than the Raymarine E80 chartplotter I ran it on, even if you add the monthly service. I just added it to my iphone.

It's a app to use for SCUBA, so it is worth more than the others apps :)

ideco looks cool, but I need to get my tech diving training first.
