Re: BP/W, Tanks, etc. for sale

Norris -- my experience has told me the same thing but I'm not the one trying to sell the gear.

Besides, really, what more info do you need other than it is a steel 130 or an AL 80? And the DSS BP/W really does have just a few dives on it -- it's just a back plate and wing.

BP/W, Tanks, etc. for sale

A former student of mine contacted me and ask for my help in selling his gear. He has medical issues that have terminated his diving career so decided he should sell those toys so that he can buy some new ones. I'm not putting any pricing on these items but make him offer that isn't insulting (or on...

Re: FREE Gas Management Lecture - Jan. 29

Just a quick bump to remind everyone there will be a FREE!!! Gas Management Workshop this coming Thursday at Bubbles Below. While I hope people will use the Meet up site to sign up, it is not required.

This is a topic that should be of interest to every diver.

FREE Gas Management Lecture - Jan. 29

Bubbles Below is hosting a FREE Gas Management (Air Supply Management) lecture on Thursday, January 29 at Bubbles Below in Woodinville. The tentative start time is 6:30 p.m. and should last until 8 or so depending on the amount of discussion and questions. PADI Instructor, Peter Rothschild (me!) wil...

Re: SS vs AL plates

My guess is that most who dive doubles AND who dive a single tank have at least two plates and use one for doubles, one for singles. Its not that you can't use one for both but, what the heck, you need to spend the money somewhere! In addition, it is possible your harness may well be set differently...

Re: Any Lawyers out there???

Penny -- of course that is an ironic answer and thank you for noticing!

The reality is that the QUESTION is pretty simple -- the answer, because it is a legal one, can't be made without a qualifier. The law is pretty simple -- but once you start adding facts, oh well.

Re: Any Lawyers out there???

Norris -- as I wrote earlier -- in order for liability to attach, there must be a duty of care towards the injured party. Whether there is a duty of care depends on the facts of the situation. When diving in a group, a duty of care MAY attach or it May NOT attach. What was said, done, etc. (i.e., th...

Re: Any Lawyers out there???

Captn Jack -- in Washington at least, I wouldn't be so sure that you don't have a duty of care towards your buddy -- insta or not -- professional or not. If you have agreed to be a "buddy" then you may well have to perform as a buddy (however that is defined). The agreement to be a buddy w...

Re: Any Lawyers out there???

I love these threads. The OP asks a question -- any lawyers out there? -- and all the NON-lawyers chime in. This is actually a pretty simple question in the Great State of Washington -- does a buddy have a duty of care towards her buddy? The answer is -- probably yes. What does that mean? I don't kn...

I just want to make the observation that a BP/W is NOT a "Tech BC" -- it is merely a modular back inflate buoyancy compensator.

Re: Underwater camera basics..

Good points made by many posters, but here is another thought and one that is often ridiculed: If you are new to photography, either UW or just new, think about taking a class. Yes, there are classes on UW photography that aren't worth the money but there are also classes on UW photography that are ...

Re: Paging Pickup Truck Owners!

I've had my little Tacoma for 3 years now -- new in March, 2011. The bed is composite and just doesn't seem to mind salt water or chlorine at all. The bolts all show rust but so what is my attitude. I did have to replace the tailgate after 1 year (?) -- but I think running a trailer hitch tongue thr...

Re: Underwater camera basics..

The most important "part" of the camera is "the eye behind the lens." Cameras today, even "low end" cameras are much better at taking technically good images than even a couple of years ago so it is true that "low end" cameras can do a decent job. However, &qu...

Re: Secret Club?

No "secret club" of which I am aware but, instead, a belief that as the dives get more complex the more you need to know your teammate(s). So it seems to me the way to get teammates for Technical Diving is to start putting together one's own group of like minded/like trained divers. And on...

A very fun dive and congrats on the pictures. I don't think I got a one that was worth keeping when Lynne and I did the dive a couple of years ago.

The critters are truly "other worldly."

Re: Cheap started point and shoot camera?

A problem with "cheap point and shoot" cameras is that you may end up not really liking the images at all and thus deciding that taking pictures isn't worth it. Instead of looking for a "cheap" camera -- I'd suggest looking for a good bargain/value and I'd start with the reviews ...

Re: Interest in an E-PL1 UW Shoot Class?

I haven't talked with Scott Lundy or Dennus Baum (or anyone else for that matter!) but I'm wondering if there is interest in having a class specifically aimed at the E-PLx shooters? I know both Scott and Dennus and neither of them shoot E-Plx's but they are both excellent shooters and good teachers....

For Sale: Bare XCD2 Tech Dry -- "Large - Short"

Now that I just got a fourth dry suit, my wife says I must sell at least one! Thus my Bare XCD2 Tech Dry, compressed neoprene suit, is up for sale -- $550 in Woodinville. The suit is a "Large - Short" which means it is designed for someone in the 180-205 pound, 5'7" - 5' 9" range...

Re: WTB Ditchachable Weight Pockets for BP/W

I'd suggest the DUI Weight and Trim or similar weight harness. Putting the weights onto a separate harness gives you much the same advantage as having pockets on your BP but with spreading the weight and thus saving some strain on your back.
