Re: Curacao Diving and Accomodations

Hi Pam, We're just back from our Curacao - Bonaire - Aruba trip so here's the scoop..... Accommodations: There are two main areas people stay in Curacao; Willemstad and Westpunt Willemstad is the main city on the island. I would compare it in size to Olympia. The advantage to staying in Willemstad i...

Re: How not to pack your dive gear for a trip--advice?

We just returned from a 17 day trip to Curacao - Bonaire - and Aruba. As part of the trip we had to take local puddle jumpers between the islands and the baggage restrictions were one checked bag (max 44lbs) and a small carry -on (max 14inches long). If our bags were overweight there was a chance th...

Cove 2 this evening was about 20 ft of vis from top to bottom. There were large chunks of alge snot in the water so looks like the bloom might be dieing off. With favorable currents this weekend my be great for diving.

Seriously though, sounds like a good 100th dive! :thumb3d:

Doing 100 dives in the Puget Sound in a wetsuit is the same as diving neked in the Bahamas!

Re: Bonaire

We found super cheep ($350) flights into Aruba about a month ago and are splitting a 17 day trip in June between Curacao and Bonaire with a few days in Aruba at the end. There are several puddle jumpers that fly between the islands on a regular basis for $55 one way.

Re: Passport woes

That's a load of crap. Tell your friend to keep the receipts and write a letter to Continental Airlines asking for reimbursement. They are not the government and don’t have the authority to determine that a passport is valid or invalid. My passport has been through the wash twice (Cindy loves to was...

Re: Viz Reports Thread

We did two dives at Sunrise yesterday. On the first dive the vis was about 10 -15ft. For the second dive we got into the water a little later than we wanted to and the current picked up some steam bringing the vis down to under 5ft.

Re: Viz Reports Thread

This damn spring sunshine is causing an alge bloom screwing up the vis all over the sound. I'm starting to long for the days of drizzle and 40 degree weather. We took a group out to Redondo this morning for a quick dip before the expo. On the surface looking down I could barely see the outli...

Great work Doug! Other than just providing financial support is there anything else you need help with?

Edit: just a thought, since the city has standardized on a brand they may get some kind of contractual volume discount. It may be worth asking if we can piggy back on their purchase.

Ouch! Lynne I hope you have a speedy recovery and are back in the water ASAP! Ouch! That sucks! One of my greatest fears of diving is falling in my gear while maneuvering to and from the water. The logs at EUP , getting to the beach at 100' rock, even sometimes the logs at muk after a storm. Hope yo...

Re: Cove 2 Diver Incident...

Holy crap. Ditching weights in 85 fsw is a pretty sobering proposition. I wonder if they did it on purpose? Out of air? I dont think that it was an accidental loss of weights. The pouch that Bob brought up was a side weight bag from an integrated BC and the belt was a Seasoft 16 pounder. I'm not su...

Re: Diving in Hoodsport this weekend (4/3-4/4)

Loretta, Cindy and I dove Sund Rock last Friday. The visibility was about 10ft with alot of floating gunk in the water. It was a super low tide so that could have been the issue.

Give Hoodsport & Dive a ring and they can give you the most recent report.

Diving Vancouver Island on the Nautilus Explorer

The dive shop I frequent had a last minute cancelation for a trip on the Nautilus Explorer and since my regular buddy as well as a bunch of other friends will be on the boat I decided on a whim to take the spot. I've never done a liveaboard or really dove much off VI and was wondering if some folks ...

I mark all of my tanks with my name, because my tank sherpa has become the tank sherpa for many other bottles lately. :breakdance: My big bottles (80 cf+) are all hot neon pink. That guarantees that nobody's going to want to touch them! :vom: Ya those barbie hott pink doubles are a sight to behold....

Re: Open Water training standards-split from "fatality at Sund R

First off, this is a great discussion that I hope leads to some changes in the way OW instructors approach gas management. In my open water class we spent alot of time getting drilled on dive tables and planning repetitive dives etc.. It was covered extensively in the book and there were 8 questions...
