Re: "Darpa Wants an Underwater GPS System"

Yeah, low-frequency and low accuracy was my first thought too... Plus, I'm sure that any tethered buoy is going to have some motion of its own which would add to the variability in the system. Seems like the development of small, cheaper inertial guidance systems might be a better direction to point...

There's also a very nice resource at windfinder.com (for surfers, kayakers, etc). Example map for the Sound: http://www.windfinder.com/weather-maps/ ... /-122.6253

unexpected?

Only met you once or twice, Spatman, but it was fun. I have pretty well given up diving too, physical issues, but I still hang around as a cyberdiver and enjoy everyone's reports and pics. Hope you can continue too.

Re: Puget Sound Hydrographs and Bathymetric data

I like the NOAA Bathymetric Data Viewer (http://maps.ngdc.noaa.gov/viewers/bathymetry/), it is a worldwide dataset so you have to zoom into our area. Turn off the Multiline Surveys, turn On the BAG Color Shaded Relief Imagery and the DEM Color Shaded Relief Imagery checkboxes. Areas with high resolu...

Re: Night Photography

Great results, dude! Astrophotography is one of those more "challenging" areas, and yours turned out really good... Personally, I think the skyglow from the cities, sometimes *adds* to a picture rather than spoiling it. I see nothing wrong with how yours ended up :)

Re: In Memoriam: Lynne Flaherty (LCF, TSandM)

I was fortunate enough to dive with Lynne twice. She was a great mentor, patient and 'mellow' and exceptionally good at explaining the reasons for all the checks and rechecks. Although I have become a cyber-diver and spend my time above the surface nowadays, I will miss her. My condolences to Peter ...

Re: Sea star die-off

One healthy-looking small purple star out in the tidal flats on the south side of Point No Point Sunday. We tucked him under some eelgrass in a tide pool to keep the kids playing on the beach from seeing him. About 5-6 inches across.

Re: Bubbles-n-Suds Oil Dock Dive!

It is a public park. There were kayakers there when we were diving. Would be a good idea to have a dive flag due the boaters. Several people were walking their dogs on the beach there too. There is a lot of sandy beach that is much easier to walk than the one between the Silver Cloud and oil dock. ...

Is that a city property? Or private for the train dock next to it? It would be a fine kayak launch spot too...
