Re: Tech gear question
Good luck - they aren't manufactured any longer so the valves are tough to find. You can give a call to John at Northeast Scuba Supply, on occasion he has used ones. Otherwise your best bet is to keep an eye out on Ebay or the tech forums (TDS, etc)

Re: Steel tanks
There's a 119 on CL right now for $250 which isn't a bargain basement price but not outrageous either. EDIT: Actually, I just checked and it's going for $200 not $250 - For a 119 in hydro that's a really fair price Thanks for the lead, Bill....I just picked that tank up for $200. :partydance: No pr...

Re: Steel tanks
Worthington, PST and Faber are the three major manufacturers of steel tanks, as mentioned only Faber still makes SCUBA tanks. I like galvanized tanks and stay away from painted ones so I don't own any Fabers. Over time salt water works it's way under the paint and causes bubbles and pits in the tank...

Had the same thing happen to the Anderson connector on my scooter. If you take it over to Vetco (the place Cam mentioned above) they will crimp it for you. It should cost you about $2 for the fix.

Re: Wreck of USS Conestoga found off California
From the NOAA Site: In September 2009, a NOAA/Fugro multibeam sonar survey of the area around Farallon Islands documented a probable shipwreck with an estimated length of 52m (170ft) at a depth of 56.5m (185ft). http://sanctuaries.noaa.gov/news/press/conestoga/ Not a walk in the park but definitely ...

Re: WTB or rent Tech gear
$800 is a reasonable gear budget to get you started. I have a friend who is selling 2 sets of Hog regs for around $250 - If your interested PM me and I'll connect you with him. I'm not a huge fan of Hog regs but have many friends that use them and it would be a really good starter set. My suggestion...

Re: No-knees Dive Training
I have read about this and followed the debate pro and con. I would like see a class taught this way. I am taking my IDC now, so I'm really interested if teaching this way can be done. I'd be interested to know- What are some of the cons that people are coming up with? The only con that I can think...

Re: Belize dive video
Very Cool!
I really like the Garden Eel scene - I can never seem to get within 50 feet of them before they shoot back in their hole.
Did you do anything to waterproof your Phantom drone? I've looking around for a waterproof GoPro capable drone but what's out there isn't very impressive.

Rosario Beach would probably be the closest spot to you with decent visibility. If you are a new diver I wouldn't suggest Skyline wall - you can get in real trouble if you don't hit the currents right.

Re: Sea lion friend or foe?
It's best to stay as far away from the sea lions as possible and to exit the water immediately upon seeing one. Haven't you heard? They are training spec ops sea lions out at Naval Base Kitsap. http://nwdiveclub.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=23569&hilit=sea+lion+navy Edit: PS - Great video! I rea...

Re: Cell Phone Service at Dive Spots
I have T-Mobile for my personal phone and AT&T for my work phone. I have no issues with my T-Mobile or AT&T service at the Coves, Saltwater or Edmonds. All along the west side of Hood Canal I get spotty service on T-Mobile and a couple of bars of service on AT&T. In general I find that I...

Re: New dive light
Hello all, I am getting back into the scuba world after a long hiatus. Going through the gear and getting it all up to date and most of the gear is still good. I do however need to replace my little canister HID light. The local dive shop here in Tacoma had a little hand mounted Sola light that the...

Re: Zipper Tests - The Results Are In!
Interesting, Thanks Tom I've had metal YKK zippers on my drysuits throughout the years and I typically get about 400 dives before I've had to replace it. In every case the problem starts as a gradual fraying of the inside lip of the zipper until it eventually starts leaking. Tired of what seems like...

The Big Island -
One of the main reasons I love diving is encounters with large pelagics and you can't beat the Big Island of Hawaii for affordable diving and shore access to the big stuff. This first video is a compilation of my morning dives at Two Step, a site located in Captain Cook about 15 miles south of Kona....

Re: New Fins
I have a set of F1's and they are nice. If you get a pair they will be a bit of an adjustment from your atomic splits - they are about 3X heavier. I picked up a set of hog blades for travel and I find that I wear them about 80% of the time for Puget Sound dives now. They are shorter and lighter than...

Re: Al vs SS Backplate?
I dive a HP130, I carry a fair amount of weight anyhow. Would the Al backplate flex or would it hold up with the wight of a 130? I use mine with double 119's so it should be fine with a single 130. I'd suggest a single tank adaptor, not because of the AL plate - They just keep a single tank from sh...

Re: Scuba Trip Tetris
Weight is always at a premium.... I do regs, light, computers and other bits of heavy stuff in my carry-on Roller bags weight about 8 lbs - Use a duffel bag instead If you're going on a liveaboard take about half the amount of clothes that you think you'll need. Your schedule will be eat, dive, eat ...

Re: Al vs SS Backplate?
I use an AL plate for my doubles and a SS plate on my singles rig. Long-story-short I had intended to use the AL plate for travel only but I got tired of taking apart and re-assembling my singles rig. I wear a weight belt like keeping my doubles rig a bit lighter - It allows me to lift them on my bo...

Or.. You could take the valves, manifold and bands off and swap them with me for two pro valves.CaptnJack wrote:Doesn't need new valves just plug the L/R sides and leave the isolator on the shelf. Search for Kimber Chard he's selling them. Not sure if he's on this board.

Re: Faber tanks?
Here's another idea.... There's a nice set of Faber double 100's for sale on the Rain City Scuba Facebook site for $525. Purchase those, break them apart and pick up a set of Thermo pro valves to put on them. You can sell the bands, manifold and valves or keep them for when you start diving doubles.

We have a XL I think pair of atlas gloves at tlsea for $40 I was looking at them last night, but not the ring system As Penopolypants mentioned that's way too expensive - bordering on being a rip off. If you can't get down to Seattle Marine (they have bankers hours in the winter) you can get them o...

Call all of the local dive shops and give them a list of everything that you had with as much detail as you can remember. Also, post it here on the NWDC as well as on FB. Tech diving gear has a pretty limited market so something is bound to turn up. Last month a buddy had his Cuda 650 stolen from hi...
