Re: Diving Vancouver Island on the Nautilus Explorer

Spares! This trip will have 8 or 9 diving days in PNW waters. Anything you can't dive without and might get lost or broken is good to have extras of. Bring spare batteries for your dive computer, dry gloves, neck seals, camera gear, etc. Also you might want some good ear plugs as the boat motors at ...

Re: Diving Vancouver Island on the Nautilus Explorer

Camerone and I were on a Nautilus trip together a couple of years ago, traveling from Vancouver to Port Hardy and back. It is a class operation and they will truely spoil you above and below water. You'll also see lots of wildlife topside, Orcas, eagles, bears, etc. I only recall a single 20 minute ...

Re: Kauai Diving?

Sorry, I didn't do any shore dives. Those are all from a boat.
rybob1 wrote:dlh,

These are great pictures - were these all from the boat dives, or are any of them from shore dives? We'd like to do mostly shore dives, which is why I ask.

Thanks,

Re: CoCo View Resort questions

Have fun! CocoView is great and the diving is really nice and easy. The reefs are in great shape as well. I've been there 3 times and had a good time every visit. The best tip I can offer is bring some good bug spray and be super consistent about using it. The tiny invisible bugs can leave some nast...

I'm glad you like the pics! We had decent vis of about 15-20 feet on this dive, so pretty good conditions. I use a DSLR setup of a Nikon D300 and a pair of Ikelite DS125 strobes on about 18" arms. You just have to be careful not to illuminate all the crude between your an your subject. The long...

Not diving, so posting...

I am bummed and depressed that I am not diving right now. My wife is out on a "Girls Only" Bandito Charter and I'm not invited! Since I can't dive, I'll post a few photos from a couple of weekends ago. We did a couple of boat dives on Zee's and Sunrise, and had some great critter interacti...

Re: looking to upgrade my camera setup

How about a used SLR setup? I have a Nikon D70 and Ikelite housing that I would be happy to sell to a new home. I moved to a D-300 a little over a year ago, and will sell at a good price. I also have an Ikelite DS-50 strobe that I never use anymore. All items are in great condition. You'll need to b...

Re: Candy!

Very nice, Dave ... I went a long time finding a candy-stripe shrimp and oddly, didn't see the first one I ever took a picture of until I downloaded the pic on the laptop (I was taking a pic of an anemone and it was underneath). I've had that experience many times. In this set of pictures I didn't ...

Candy!

Candy Stripe Shrimp that is! I had a great excursion out to the San Juans on Saturday for a couple of very nice dives with Bandito Charters. Conditions were good, with vis around 10' and 20' per dive. A bit chunky on the first dive with some current, but dive#2 opened right up with clear water. Sadl...

We're headed back down to SoCal at the end of the month, and your photos have just whetted my appetite. Thanks for sharing them! Glad you liked the pics! Where are you going to be diving in SoCal? Tour of the Channel Islands

I did a live aboard on the Nautilus Explorer last month to the Channel Islands off southern California. We covered all of the islands from San Clemente near San Diego, Catalina, the Eureka Oil rig, and Santa Rosa off Santa Barbara. It's been at least 15 years since I last dove in SoCal and it was ni...

Don't screw it on so tight, and buy yourself a Strap Wrench for those cases when you have a problem. Very handy and cheap tool to keep on hand!

I mostly use the Sigma 15 for wide angle and the Nikon 60mm & 105mm for macro. I've used a few others, but these are the three that I like best.

Thanks! I'm using a pair of Ikelite DS-125 strobes with a Nikon D300 in an Ikelite housing. I just upgraded from a 4/5 year old D70 and this was my first chance to shoot wide angle with this setup.
